I'm using for the first time in about 4 years (and used to just use it to cut out complex UV maps for video projection mapping), and wow, with the realtime rendering engine is a game changer. and the UI has become so much easier to navigate in this time. it's like if and a reunited and became merged as one.

wow, I am so blown away with what geometry nodes + eevee have done for #blender. it now contains nearly every single tool in the #vfx artist's toolshed (rather than using a materials program, a bodypaint program, a realtime rendering programming envrionments, and so on, how it normally is), and with eevee its honestly faster than anything I ever used. I've been trying to get away from doing #vfx work, but now I'm glad i'm taking vfx bookings again because this is insanely fun.

while I was never a heavy user of modeling programs, I needed to use them for lots of very technical things involving video mapping, and I always used Cinema4D, which was super easy and relatively real time (compared to the competition at least), as I got a free license for it when I was 23 when I won a Vimeo award. but eventually that license ran out, and so I downloaded Blender, and damn was it more complex. and that complexity was certainly magnified by the slow rendering, at least when compared to C4D.

now the user interface has become basically homogenous, I just press the space bar and get a popup search appear under my mouse, type the name of whatever I'm looking for and boom, simple, I can just do that over and over and suddenly its the most intuitive vfx program out there. and I've never been able to work with 3D modelling, sculpting, texturing, physics etc in realtime like this. being able to work with these heavy duty tools at the speed of thought, with a python repl into the environment is really a trip, and its 100% #foss

this honestly feels like the biggest advancement in real-time rendering software in the 15+ years I've been doing this stuff. It's Jitter, Touchdesigner, Houdini, Body Paint, After Effects, Final Cut and Rhino all in one package that is now easy to navigate.

god damn!
