@nyrath I spend ages trying to figure out tasteful iconography for fictional space militaries and the space force just goes and puts that on their patch.
I hear that a lot from science fiction authors. It is depressingly difficult to invent some outlandish ridiculous future device or social trend which DOESN'T become reality before your book is published.
You're the real artist here, but it seems lilke all kinds of hot design mess to me. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a prelim version with a Punisher logo instead of the reaper.
Should have mentioned that interpretation was inspired by this:
What does the Penrose triangle symbolize?
The Penrose Triangle has become a symbol of the power of perception and the limits of human understanding, inspiring artists and mathematicians alike. Penrose attended a lecture in 1954 by Escher and felt motivated to illustrate that concept.
The official explanation of the design is unenlightening.
…the red triangle signifies targeting which is the mission of the 75th ISRS, the reaper inside the triangle signifies the demise of any adversary the squadron would target, … and the scale armor background exemplifies the squadron’s strength and flexibility in the protection and defense of the space domain.
@nyrath@eldadoinquieto It doesn't necessarily have to be a kinetic removal of the enemy satellite, it could be burning out sensors on the satellite or rendezvous and inspection or something like that.
@eldadoinquieto@nyrath I think it is going to be similar to the Russian Kosmos 2558-like missions vs USA 326. On-orbit inspection and possible rendezvous.
@nyrath@eldadoinquieto and present! Russia has been doing the on-orbit inspection thing (probably) for a few years now. Un-crewed, but the same idea. (my plot of one of the close-approaches between 2558 and 326 - same RAAN and inclination, with 2558 below 326)
@eldadoinquieto@nyrath yes, it was high drama in the satellite watching community for a while, an American satellite seems to perform a number of orbit changes designed to avoid a Russian inspector satellite. High speed chase, in space
