@cassidy I love this. Micah just overrode our doorbell and instead of the chime it now Rick-rolls us when someone presses the doorbell. The neighbor kids come ring our bell just to hear it now.

@purple@cassidy Now you have to automate it! I've got a power measuring outlet on my coffee machine. A notification will be send and the machine is turned off when the coffee is ready.
@cassidy Drunk with power is when you get the smart speakers to yell all over the house that, "Mom!! I NEED SOME TOILET PAPER!!" in a little kid's voice.
@cassidy I'm curious where you got them for $6. It looks like they're $15 on the official site, and that's about on par with other options so I'd love to find them for cheaper!

@cassidy Ha! I installed something similar a year or two back. I think that installing it made her embarrassed that she'd asked enough I felt warranted to set that up; she's never once used the button! 😄
@SKleefeld to be clear, I installed this for our toddler and preschooler who need help in the bathroom more often; I just thought the toilet paper use case was pretty amusing. 😁
When you hit the button, it broadcasts to the house that someone needs help in the upstairs bathroom. It has a genuine use, though: our toddler sometimes needs help in the potty, and this makes it so they don’t have to yell. Plus… Internet of Shit… it was too good to pass up.
IKEA had these on sale for like $6, and despite the #InternetOfShit meme, it’s actually handled entirely locally. Yay, #HomeAssistant and #Zigbee!
@cassidy my kids have such button at their bedside. Instead of yelling (when they had a bad dream or sth like that) and waking up the other kid, they press the button and we get a notification (that is configured on our phone with a separate tone and allowed to override silent mode).
