lutillian,

Community hotlink for lemmy users: !futurology

Lugh,
@Lugh@futurology.today avatar

We beta tested it for a while & went live today.

reddit.com/…/rfuturology_is_now_in_the_fediverse_…

It will be interesting to see how it does. r/futurology has 19 million subscribers, but I don’t know what that means for the lemmy site.

bug,

Hopefully it’ll get a bit more traffic than !futurology has

Calling it "official" is kind of weird. Anyone can start a futurology community here in the Fediverse, and it's entirely up to the users which one they want to use.

It's not "the official futurology instance", it's "the official r/futurology instance":

This is a sibling community to r/futurology on Reddit, set up and moderated by the same people.

EnglishMobster,

Lemmy users, this should be an instance-agnostic link to the “main” futurology community there (probably won’t work on Kbin):

/c/futurology@futurology.today

Might be worth cross-posting to !newcommunities.

I think Kbin works with the ! tag now

Test: !futurology

Edit: confirmed

On it. :)

Hazdaz,

Is ot going to be the same doom and gloom that the Reddit version was? Just an endless stream of posts from people claiming we are all going to lose our jobs and the world is going to end very shortly.

nah it actually had some pog discussions out there tbh

alvvayson,

Not to mention the censorship. Mention nuclear energy on r/futurology and you got a permaban from that and r/energy.

Fuck, I didn’t ever comment there and got permabanned because I was active on r/nuclear and the mod Agent_03 and some others faked evidence to claim I was a sock puppet. At the time, I even paid for reddit premium and reddit did nothing.

Well, they stopped short from terminating my account. But fuck that, if I’m going to spend money, I don’t want to be a victim of a power hungry mod with a hidden agenda.

Hazdaz,

Oh damn, that’s a new one for me.

I’d been banned from other subs simply because I commented in another sub - how goddamn insane is that?! Fuck everything about that site.

I don’t recall them being anti nuke. Then again I don’t recall there being any nuclear posts there at all… probably for the exact reason yiu just mentioned.

alvvayson,

They aren’t anti-nuke. It’s more like a few mods want to censor the discussion, because they fell for a conspiracy theory promoted by the r/uninsurable nuts. And those guys are anti-nuclear environmentalists pushing every filmsy lie they can.

What happened was, on appeal some futurology mods unbanned me, since they could find no wrongdoing, until Agent_03 and the other mods re-banned me. His evidence was obviously photoshopped screenshots produced by the uninsurable guys, but he legitimately believes my account was a sock puppet financed by big nuclear.

I have never received a cent from the nuclear industry these past 30 years and most of my personal clean tech investments were in renewables and batteries.

And it wasn’t just me. The uninsurable guys convinced them that everyone active on r/nuclear is a sock puppet… It would be funny if it weren’t sad.

Hazdaz,

Fuck that site.

Even when I was on it, I saw enough other things that I actively wished they it would fail. That hasn’t changed now that I’m off it.
