@renwillis dd-mm-yy is used everywhere except NA. Central and south America, Africa , Europe and Oceania. Literally the world except there. You are the odd ones out!
@noodlemaz We save that "It's the X of Y" date talk for important fancy days like 4th of July. Otherwise, we just speak more concisely, "it's March 10th" and write it as such.
I lived in Asia for a few years, it was fun to play with reverse dates, celsius, and the metric system in day-to-day life.
The key is to not worry too much and go with the flow! Fluidity is the spice of life!
@renwillis missing a single word (of) doesn't really make it more concise when you switch numbers so that everyone has to check - and it doesn't make sense to go month/day/year - go up in unit size (start with day) or down (start with year) - the US believing their system is normal and everyone else is weird is very... US, is all I'm saying. The rest of the world does it differently.
I've lived in the US, it's one of the most irritating admin things tbh
@noodlemaz Honestly, it really doesn’t matter and you could argue either makes sense. You could also argue year-first makes sense due to how data & file names are organized.
Hell… One could argue our Gregorian calendar system in general is pretty silly & antiquated. Humans, eh? Weird little animal.
My advice to you is just be a leaf in the river, my friend. “When in Rome…” and all that. Conservatism and rigidity makes for a pretty boring life!
