Side note. My skateboarding buddy had their platinum gold album because his Dad was in original #DEVO lineup. I remember dropping acid in his apartment, when he was telling me stories about DEVO in his home as a kid. They apparently made awesome pancakes.
@johnettesnuggs It was surreal when I found out. Dylan was one of my good local skater pals in my early adulthood. He showed me so much DEVO memorabilia that his Dad gave him. I got to hear many songs that weren't ever released.
@johnettesnuggs This world is big but there's so many close degrees of separation. When you talk to some ppl long enough, it's easy to see those degrees of separation, better. 🤘
@msquebanh It is weird sometimes how you can find those connections, randomly. I know. I did the six degrees of Kevin Bacon once just for fun. I made it in 5. Mainly because my first cousin went to high school with Sheryl Crow…and my husband’s great-uncle (who was really weird, btw) worked at the mortuary that Elvis Presley was laid out at in Memphis. He embalmed Elvis.😬

I remember being on solo trip in Australia & went on a guided outback bus tour. About 30 mins into ride, I hear someone asking me if my name was Que Phung Banh. I haven't used my full given name since elementary school. Turned out, it was grade 3-7 classmate, who I hadn't seen in decades! It was really cool to reunite, serendipitously!

@Wraithe@msquebanh@johnettesnuggs A family friend went to work in South Africa for a few years as an engineer. In his spare time, he went on a hike to the highest church in SA, in terms of elevation. After a long hike, he takes a rest & sits down, leaning against a gravestone. His friend took a photo & when he came home, we noticed the name on the gravestone. It was of a chap that had emigrated to SA many years before, from our little town.

Anyway, there was a change to their flights which meant they stopped over in Sydney. I didn't know this. They had like 24hrs to wait, so travelled into Sydney to check it out. I was leaving work & bumped into them. I mean actually bumped into them as I walked out of my office on the street.
@msquebanh@Wraithe@johnettesnuggs I worked in this huge tower block & normally I'd leave by the main entrance, but it was Friday, so we took the back way through the emergency exit, because that was the street with the bars on it. I was talking to a colleague as we opened the door & bumped into someone. "Oh, I'm sorry... Ben? Claire? What the fucking fuck are you doing here?"
@msquebanh that is so cool!! There are two girls I was friends with in elementary. They moved, and I never knew where. I wonder where they are now sometimes. It would be amazing to run into old friends like that. I did have a student I taught my second year of teaching who randomly emailed me 10-15 yrs later at a different school to tell me how she was, that she was a mom, and tell me how much she appreciated me. That little email meant so much!!
@johnettesnuggs We met Tony Hawk in Vancouver in 1988. We helped film his first vids to pitch to pro skateboarding companies. He went on his first North American tours about 2 yrs after we sent in his demo vids.
I met up with him again, 12 yrs after in California. He treated me & my crew/friends very well. I remember him; way before he became famous. He was a solid, radsome dude 🤘
@msquebanh my boys are huuuuuge Tony Hawk fans…his stories about people telling him he looks like Tony Hawk are hilarious. I love celebrities who can laugh at themselves. He seems like he’d be really cool to talk to and hang out with. Just a really good person. I wish everyone was like that!!
@johnettesnuggs Rad! Tony is solid goodness. He's been humble when he could've been not. He came back to BC lots because he never forgot folks who helped him out, way before he hit big time stages.
