Anyone else dismayed by the limited success and adoption of Odysee (YT alternative) when it comes to Reddit alternatives?

So YouTube has a lot of problems, there's no denying that. Frivolous and selective (not to mention automated) copyright enforcement, bureaucratic termination appeal system, COPPA idiocy, the whole clusterfuck that is monetization, etc?...

a lot of people are probably turned off by odysee because it's based around a crypto ponzi scam and most of the content creators there are hardcore conservatives. No thank you lol

Fediverse migrants are a self-selecting group

Point being, all of us that are here are the ones cool enough to come here. We are unified by the desire for a better social media that is not-for-profit and user driven. And that makes this community unique compared to the scabs advocating for Reddit. The people who will belong here will come here. :)

Started feeling the same way after I left twitter and had been on mastodon for a few months! At first I was like holy shit it's so nice over here I have to tell everyone! Then I realized most people don't care and everyone who is here came because they made a conscious decision to find something better, not because someone talked them into it

It's insanely stable but you have to have a lot of linux/programming knowledge to do even the simplest things like installing/updating your software or making little tweaks. I played with it for hours the other day and I'm just too dumb to figure it out lol I think it's just a super stable highly customizable distro for power users and a lot of people like that. If you can get over the learning curve it's a pretty powerful and unique os

I, too, am one of the many people who were just reminded to leave a review

Also, their official app is LITERALLY based on a third party app! When everything was transitioning to new reddit they tried to build an app and it was fucking terrible so they bought out the most successful third party reddit app for iOS; Alien Blue. Even if you go into the theme settings on the android app the default theme is still called Alien Blue.

Conker's Bad Fur Day! Updated to use both analog sticks and throw some fancy ray tracing stuff in there

That's awesome! I'm definitely getting that same vibe here and that's how it felt when I made the jump from twitter to mastodon last year. The fediverse is so much nicer. I hope it stays that way!

Idk I personally don't think it will be a good thing. Lots of good federated platforms already exist and anyone on insta or facebook can already come here if they want to escape all the qanon boomers and minions memes. I don't think a proprietary ad-driven capitalism machine really aligns with what the fedi is all about
