I admit, I saw a Cybertruck when I was about to get onto the NJ Turnpike.

It really looks ugly. :neocat_facepalm:

yon,
@yon@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 It looks brutal, in the worse possible way. Like a suppressive police state in a shitty sci fi movie.

As a side note, read that the DeLorean was meant to be painted, but they chose not to. Something that they sent it from the factory like they are known to look and were meant to be painted as part of the sale or something similar. Could be malarkey who knows.

I just know I’d rather own a DeLorean, and I actually don’t want one (they aren’t good).

Oof, the SSD speeds are slower on the PowerCenter compared to my G4 MDD or even the G3 B&W. Might be because I'm running a Rage 128 on the same PCI Bus or maybe it's because of the slower processor and bus speeds.

Faster than any SCSI emulator though.

@chikorita157 Were you able to test them vs a period correct spinning disk?

yon,

@chikorita157 Also the writes are higher than the reads. This setup would have been bonkers back in the day :)

yon,
@yon@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 I like how SSDs are quiet, that makes it worth it for me :)

If the accelerator card has memory on it, it probably can ran the memory at a higher speed which equals speed etc. No idea if that’s the case :)

@chikorita157 @fujiwara I’m on Ivory as well. It’s not bad.

That said I’m not shopping around for apps after I’ve ended up with one. So there might be something cool I’m unaware of:)

Yep, it seems the studio that got caught of having scenes made from animators in North Korea was actually a thing done by a subcontractor. I wonder, how did this happen :bunhdthink:

@chikorita157 If there’s one universal thing is business it’s that driven sociopaths want all the money and any mean is justified for that end.

If I’ve understood it the connection to North Korea, for every single country in that region, is quite strange. China would much rather NK go away and nobody quite wants anything to do with them. I’d be very surprised if the majority of SK would not want to avoid a unification at almost any cost.

So I assume any work being done in NK is highly regulated. And I bet this wasn’t.

I feel sorry for most people in the entertainment industry. They are so passionate and want to entertain the rest of us. But so many of them work in such shitty conditions:(

Darn, it looks like the reduced ROM Radeon 7000 I flashed in 2015 doesn't work on an old world Mac. Time to find a Sun version of the Radeon 7000 to flash the full ROM, as it has a big ROM chip since it also support open firmware like the Power Mac..

I'm happy that Cara appears to be growing well, but their recent $13,500/mth for database bills just proves that they might be waaay over their heads.

The site is image heavy, and it looks like they're using... Cloudflare CDN, which is fine, but I worry that they'll hit the 'professional limits' and be forced to pay 'enterprise' rates, maybe that's why they got such a huge bill.

yon,
@yon@sakurajima.moe avatar

@anianimalsmoe @chikorita157 Even decentralized media grows quickly (video even worse).

Agreed, the buy/sell commission (etc?) part is the only one making sense. If they had launched that part and used pixelfed for the rest (including connecting to fedi and thus the rest of everything) I think they could be profitable.

AI scanning I think will become awfully difficult in the end.

I like the model of “little” extra services where a profit model makes sense while linking that to a distributed non-profit one.

Humane AI is apparently a fire risk.

No, I didn’t make this up, but not too surprising since it’s a garbage product that is looking for a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

@chikorita157 I’m surprise anyone is using the dang things. Seems like a properly bad product.

That said fire means batteries means scary. Not a good thing to be around. As dumb as this thing is I hope nobody gets hurt.

Yesterday was crazy, there was a tornado warning that scared me, but apparenty there were reports of tornados, but nothing too serious besides some tree falling down. Thankfully, nothing happened where I live.

Yes, it’s a sign that people should take climate change seriously.

@chikorita157 We’ve only had the tornado sires go off once, but it was quite nerve wracking to say the least. Proper scary.

@chikorita157 Natural disasters in general are terrifying in so many ways. Especially since I didn’t grow up with any.

yon,

@chikorita157 That is just so genuinely scary, I can’t even begin to understand. Take care!

yon,

@chikorita157 I hear you. I’m in the middle away from coasts, but it’s super flat and we’re pretty close to a little river (aka the Mississippi…) so it’s not all roses.

Climate change and the destruction of the environment just makes me so damn sad:( It’s very scary that it’s visibly happened in my lifetime.

Finally got the PowerCenter running, but sadly the Interware Booster G3 card might not be compatible. I got a new PSU installed

I have other G3 accelerator that is coming that might work, but I need one since there is no cache card, which impacts performance

Need to install ATI drivers for the Rage 128, but contemplating getting that Sun version of the Radeon 7000 if I can find one for a decent price as those can flash the full Mac rom.

yon,
@yon@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 It’s so funky to see an old school PC Case that’s actually a Mac :)

Hopefully the next accelerator works. I assume that it can be hard to get detail info about those things by now.

yon,
@yon@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 One can recap and fix old PSUs, BUT that isn’t easy (nor safe for noobs). So new ones are safer.

One could use those smaller (physical size) PSUs as well. Can’t remember the name but it’s same ATX variation for smaller cases.

Since one usually doesn’t need that many watts for older machines. My frankemiga does not need 450watts exactly:) Was worried it wouldn’t start because it didn’t load it enough.

@chikorita157 They keep doing fantastic work that whole team. Always going for doing it right over “near term shareholder value”.

@chikorita157 The murmurs about Apple and ChatGPT really sucks. Was hoping they could have come up with something actually ethical and useful for those neural engine thingies instead.

We’ll soon get to see what it is. But I haven’t seen a new version of iOS that I actually wanted in so long it’s crazy. They are just changing and adding gimmicky crap they dump before the next version at this point:(

@yon I got this SATA card for the Power Computing clone that is coming soon, and this is practically the easiest card to flash, to make it work on a Mac. Just in case if you are interested.

@chikorita157 That generation of PCI is 133MB/s right? The idea of a drive that fast (ignoring that it wouldn’t actually run at full tilt in practice) would have been mind boggling at the time. SATA is pretty much the same as even a bad M.2 from today should be faster than old PCI.

I’m just being nostalgic about old hardware and the crazy differences. I’ve got over 1024 times as much RAM in my PC as I had disk in my Amiga 1200, and the bandwidth of my disks today dwarfs the RAM of the past. It’s just crazy.

I was born closer to the first real computer than today. And things have accelerated like crazy during my lifetime.

@chikorita157 I was the one with computers, my parents didn’t have any until later. :)

The announcement about the 800 character limit also reminds me...

When looking up the places in Akihabara, there's a maid cafe in Akihabara Denpan Kaikan called

アキバなら異世界メイドがお給仕したって問題ないよねっ!

(In Akiba, there is no problem even if a maid from another world serves you!)

Only spotted it on Google Maps after I came back from Japan though :frierendisappointed1:

yon,

@anianimalsmoe @neatchee @rgbunny Damn, the ones I had last millennia was real patties. Their teriyaki burger was amazing. I still put teriyaki on my burgers when I cook them. But that didn’t look up to snuff at all:(

Ironically you can find some of the worst burgers here (virtually all fast food ones. McD is incredibly bad here compared to what I’ve had in other countries) and some of the best (real burger joints are plenty, and the home of the Jucy Lucy/Juicy Lucy and many other great burgers).
