Great start to the day!

Excel’s beyond a joke collaboration features have meant all of my work yesterday has been wiped out because one of my colleagues saved over the versions.

This is why you don’t use Excel for fault tracking!

Looking for #SelfHosted advice: Thinking of binning my home-made Ansible setup of various docker containers in favour of something more off the shelf.

Any recommendations for user-friendly orchestration systems that work well across multiple nodes so that I can cluster my various raspberries pi?

I think Portainer can do it, are there others?

wamonite,

@Floppy a friend was raving about docker swarm for his setup. I didn’t like it when I tried but that was a looong time ago now.

Annoyed to discover that Lychee Slicer's scene files are proprietary. I could spend the time to reverse engineer the format as long as it's not encrypted (it wouldn't be my first, eh @wamonite?), but I have much better things to do.

Does makes me want to stop paying for Lychee though and find another slicer. Only losers use secret formats.

@k1m @Floppy @3dprinting you have the resin printer experience that I don’t, although it's disappointing to hear the proprietary nature of the file formats. While there’s enjoyment in reverse engineering, your time is way better spent in improving @manyfold. I’m all for voting with your feet and spending your cash and dev time on more open formats.

Walked the dog over to the lit up building I’ve seen from afar on prior walks. This is University of Surrey land and need to find more info on the project.

What is generative AI for if not for writing lyrical analyses of dance tracks? In this case, “on a ragga tip”:

> The protagonist is repeating the phrases "ba day ba wadladie day" and "ay um ba da-da-da-da wadladie day" multiple times while occasionally adding "one". The lyrics don't provide a clear storyline or message.

@wamonite@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@Floppy we are boiling the sea for such insights.

I foolishly went to the site on my phone away from my pi-hole and could not find the text for the wall of ads. Generative AI has truly enabled the ad-focussed Internet race to the bottom.

The next successful search engine will hopefully be the one that excludes generated content, not embraces it.

Poor Things is like a much, much more accessible The Lobster. It is almost as good as Everything Everywhere All At Once which is an unbelievable compliment. See it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlbR5N6veqw

Was looking for something completely different in my office and found this 23-year-old copy of Edge, which contains a review of the work @wamonite and I did for a Millenium Dome exhibit under the headline “Valid reason to visit Millennium Dome found” 😂

Valid reason to visit Millennium Dome found BT and technology company AvatarMe have provided gamers with a reason of sorts to visit the Millennium Dome. Visitors to BT's Talk Zone will be able to enter one of three AvatarBooths and generate a 3D image of themselves, which can then be downloaded from www.bt.com/ takzone or www.avatarme.com. Initially avatars will consist of 2,500 polygons, but from this month users will be able to download avatars that feature vaniable levels of detail - from 600 polygons up to 40,000. BT envisages a wide range of uses for these avatars, from purchasing clothes over the Net to online dating, but the most rewarding will undoubtedly be multiplayer gaming. Avatar files can currently be converted for use in Quake III Arena and The Sims, but AvatarMe plans to support a wide range of genres in the future, both by offering a conversion service on its site and by sending out dev kits that will enable games to be designed for use with the file format. The big advantage that this technology has over competitors like Digimask and CyberExtruder is that the whole body is captured, and, as Edge can testify, this makes all the difference. Image: a low-poly but realistically textured avatar of a man named “Taurus” holding a large gun in the game Unreal Tournament. Image caption: The results AvatarMe can come up with can be shockingly realistic, as the Taurus model (above) attests. It's the full body that does it.
