I just got the lineups for an upcoming regatta I’m rowing in. I have four races. I’m rowing port in a 4+, starboard in an 8+, and stroking both a 2x and a 4x. I’ll have the weirdest blisters.

I just finished β€œThe Overstory” by Richard Powers. Every human should read it. Beautiful writing. Engaging story. Clever character arcs. You will be a different person by the time you’re finished.

I rowed port in a pair tonight. These days I mostly scull over sweep rowing, so being back to the one oar life was fun. I was perfectly matched with my partner. It was like magic.

The book I’m reading is beautifully written. Usually β€œprose-y” books are so pretentious. Like, β€œheyyyy have you noticed what a biiiig vocabulary I have? And run on sentences are the new vogue! Who needs a plot or relatable characters when you have the brilliance of My Words.” But this one is rather remarkable. So far at least.

(It’s β€œThe Overstory” by Richard Powers. Earlier this year I read his β€œBewilderment” on the recommendation of a local indie bookseller and found it wonderful. I looked up his other works and turns out he wrote this lil Pulitzer Prize winner, too!)
