@tojiro
Every major Chrome release, I check the Steam Deck for hardware WebGPU in main and

Upside: Proton emulated Windows Electron builds seem to work well with WebGPU, even if native is still software.

Downside: I can't for the life of me get Chrome in Electron or otherwise, to see the Deck as a gamepad, and not with the joystick mapped to WASD, even after customizing the control scheme.

Would you happen to have any idea who I could try reaching about flags / launch args to turn that off?

seanmay,

@tojiro thanks for the insights.

Given I haven't looked into the inner workings of any of the pieces, I sort of naively presumed that Proton would be hijacking DX calls via Angle, and SteamOS Vulkan lib in that path was different than even what 125 is expecting at current. Ignorant outsider "it's magic" stuff.

And yeah, it's pivotal that Chrome can emulate mouse/keyboard on those devices. At the same time, I wish there was a controller-based full-screen kiosk-mode flag at launch.

seanmay,

@tojiro Yeah, in my testing, I've been using the Electron prebuilt Windows x86 dist, and copy-pasting in web demos.

https://no-really-it-visualizes-quake-maps.netlify.app/

That gets ~12fps in software, with serious artifacts (it's a super naive render pass). But uploading a dev-build of it, in a Windows Electron prebuilt folder (specifically Windows x86) nets me 60fps (it's Quake 1, and no lighting... it really should, even with no occlusion at all).

Hence the desire for kiosk-mode for Steam releases, and not just sites.
