first i'll make it work, then i'll make it usable, then i'll make it pretty (-ish)

steam would be so much better if the frontend/client was open source

keep the drm lib closed, it's shipped with the game, doesn't matter. but open up the client, it has no real reason to be closed except not allowing people to fix it's many flaws

navi,
@navi@social.vlhl.dev avatar

it's funny how it has zero documented flags, seriously, why even ship a man page at this point

navi, to random
@navi@social.vlhl.dev avatar

sway is just, segfaulting on the deck, no error, no nothing

welp, issue for tomorrow me to fix

some things spend more time doing ./configure checks than actually building, that's kinda insane

navi,
@navi@social.vlhl.dev avatar

@lanodan appealing if you have time to understand how to build every package i guess

because you lose the easy of just inherit build-system and have it work as is (for meson and autotools usually, make it depends if the makefile is sane)

navi,
@navi@social.vlhl.dev avatar

@lanodan and libs which you'd need to manually look for and pkgconfig

doable for simple c programs tho, i think

navi, to random
@navi@social.vlhl.dev avatar

i honestly don't know what a good wayland compositor to put on the deck is

i'll just slap sway and autostart steam for now i think

and make a proper, non-steam, menu later

navi,
@navi@social.vlhl.dev avatar

@lanodan oh, that's a good idea actually, i forgot about sxmo

i'll poke at their touchscreen scripts

finally

broketh thy chains of immutability

navi,
@navi@social.vlhl.dev avatar

@lanodan i've been wanting to do that ever since i got it

steamos always feels really limiting, and specially clunky when it's non-steam stuff, where your options are either mess with flatpak, or manually install to your home, or disable immutability and use pacman but have it be wiped next update

this i can do it my way, and hey, --getbinpkg made it a breeze to install

navi,

So much of C portability is fucking around with #define _{DEFAULT,BSD,GNU}_SOURCE so that the things you want are visible…

navi,
@navi@social.vlhl.dev avatar

@lanodan me #define _XOPEN_SOURCE 500 so that nftw is visible but suddenly that breaks freebsd includes on ci bc setting a standard is supposed to hide the extensions ig

navi, to random

terminfo kinda just sucks

why not just have a few capabilities env vars instead of something you need to install on the system and query by terminal name...?

navi,
@navi@social.vlhl.dev avatar

@lanodan works too, i just want something that is not tied to a database that u gotta ask to be included and then wait for systems to update it
