It's funny how I wanted #Obsidian be my everything at first. I used it as a task manager, project manager etc. Now I've moved work-related stuff out of my vault. Now use my co's Confluence to store project & meeting notes for my knowledge base, and my tasks in Todoist.
My vault can now focus on what Obsidian does best - a #PKM note taking app for my passions rather than a productivity tool.

msemochkin,

@liztai I've had a similar migration out of #Obsidian many times. Then back again. Then out of obsidian again. And so on 😅

msemochkin,

@liztai To be fair, of course, the flow varies each time. For example, I removed tasks from Obsidian to Todoist. At the next iteration I realized that it is more convenient for me to enter tasks devoted to work with PKM itself (like "rewrite this") back in Obsidian itself.

Sign in my hotel room in London. The door was stuck, and the maintenance crew helpfully "fixed" it by putting up a sign. Naturally I got transferred to a room with, you know, a door that actually opens and closes.

Phone integration in modern #Linux is just magical! KDE Connect is even better than the iPhone and #MacBook.

I’ve always been a note-taker, and although most of my notes are digital these days, I do still have and enjoy a decent collection of fountain pens, inks, and paper. These are the pens I’ve currently got inked, and the inks that are in them. On Tomoe River paper.

A pocket fountain pen arrived from China. Jinhao 82. The photo shows a kaweco for size comparison.

msemochkin,

@paradoxmo After a day of use, I can say I'm not very happy with the pen. Of course, it is silly to expect something for such a tiny price, but the nib is definitely worth working on to write well. Very poor ink supply even though it is an M.

I took a deep dive into ... 🤪
My biggest challenge right now is NOT to abandon and switch completely to . And also not to abandon Todoist in favor of .

msemochkin,

@mykhaylo @EpiphanicSynchronicity I think it was more about the difference between org vs md storage formats. Not about roam per se.
Thanks for mentioning denote I'll look into it when I have time.

About a month ago I switched to after a few years with an . Both platforms have their pros and their cons. That's all understandable.

But when working with , having Syncthing is a huge pros. I remember synchronization via like a bad dream.

Was able to pay for Owl. It's a plugin for #Thunderbird adding Exchange support. Work email has never looked so nice and convenient! @thunderbird

msemochkin,

@slink @thunderbird I agree. But working for a large corporation trying to change such requirements is very much like going to war with windmills.

I'm asking for help from the community. Help me understand - if I keep my notes on a work project for myself, I don't share them with anyone, I just use them as PKM. Does this require a commercial license from #Obsidian?

CC: @kepano

msemochkin,

@kepano @doctorambient In any case, thanks for the answer!
Such a model is rather difficult to understand and interpret unambiguously, as I think. A simple example. My job is a product manager, my product is written in Java. Notes about Gradle are more of a hobby for me, because the Java code of our product is built by other people. But I like Java, I use it sometimes in home projects and it's just interesting to understand it.

msemochkin,

@kepano @doctorambient Another example. I am very interested in the topic of #PKM I think like most of the #Obsidian community. The moment I start advising my colleagues at the water cooler about taking notes, does that make my notes about PKM and Obsidian itself an object requiring a license?

msemochkin,

@kepano @doctorambient ok. But these are work-related notes that I use during working hours that the company pays me.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to catch you on some kind of logical inconsistency, much less find a way to get around the license. I just want to show what exactly causes difficulties in understanding the licensing model.

msemochkin,

@flohgro Correspondence on this issue with @kepano is already in full swing 😄. Much has become clearer, much has not.
Look at the other posts in this thread.

msemochkin,

@EpiphanicSynchronicity @doctorambient @kepano Of course, this approach has a right to life.
But I don't like the idea of separating storage in this way. There is a large number of domains in which I just can't draw a line whether it belongs to work or hobby.

By the way, I have the same logic in my work with tasks, for example. A task cannot be a work task or a personal task, it is a task that I have to perform in some context.

"It's a good idea to put your country's flag in your profile so they can quickly know where you're from. IE, don't presume you're from a certain country."

Me, wondering if they'd recognise my country's flag or ... think it's American

#Malaysian #Malaysia #SocialMedia #SouthEastAsia #TootSEA

msemochkin,

@liztai I would actually easily mistake it for American.

In my case, I'm not sure how best to proceed. On the one hand it's a really good idea on the other hand I don't want my country's flag 🇷🇺 to be seen as supporting the actions of our schizophrenic.

msemochkin,

@liztai I am no longer talking about whether someone likes or dislikes me. Russian flags in their profiles are very often put up by those Russians who support the war.

That's the dilemma. I would like to indicate where I am from, but I don't want to be unclear about my support for the government.

msemochkin,

@liztai It happened because one old man with a mass of complexes and a mid-last century mentality should never be allowed to rule a huge country with nuclear weapons for 20+ years in a row 🤷‍♂️
