#Reading Jen Campbell's funny and occasionally cringeworthy 2011 book "Weird things customers say in bookshops". Some of it becomes a bit more comprehensible if you suppose that certain people don't quite understand the difference between a bookshop and a public library.

Listening to the Imaginary Worlds podcast about the truly astonishing number of being banned from and public in the US. About half of them are about people of colour of queer people. And I remember Inger Edelfeldt's coming of age novel "Duktig pojke" as a set text in middle school in the mid 80s. My teacher brought a box of that book into class as one of a few options. USA, you are a travesty.

My parents met when they were 19, divorced in their early 50s and have rarely met since. Recently they did though, at a concert. They're 80 now. Afterwards both commented to me, "Awful how old he/she looks these days!" They were both incredibly good-looking in 1970.

On this date in 1999, I went to a party and met a charming and pretty journalist of Chinese extraction. Since that day we've never been apart for more than a few weeks. Raised two kids and lived at three addresses together. 25 years with my YuSie! <3

Hey skeptics, this new film is about what would have happened if James Randi had encountered something supernatural and really bad on camera during an appearance on the Johnny Carson Show.

Next week I'm attending a conference in Brussels under the heading "Hobby #archaeology: from citizen science to heritage practice communities". It's going to be a little unusual, because most of the participants approach metal detecting as an object of sociological study, not as an instrument to gather data on archaeological objects. But I have very little interest in sociological aspects on archaeology, or meta-archaeology. 1/2

I collaborate with amateur detectorists primarily because I want archaeological data. (Also of course it's a super fun and friendly activity.) This means that I am an object of study to most of the participants. 2/2

@Qwaint The Kobo is great! Big beefy online bookstore. And you can config it to turn off entirely after an interval, which makes it slow to start but preserves battery like the Kindle doesn't to my knowledge. I have both.

Apparently one of the most common uses of LLMs in is copy editing: cleaning up your on points of spelling, grammar and style. This is wildly unattractive to me. I love writing. My personal style, my personal voice, are extremely high priorities to me. It annoys me no end when a journal editor replaces one of my unconventional style choices with something bland. If an editor ran a paper of mine through an I would scream bloody murder.

@mrundkvist@archaeo.social avatar

@jannem Yes indeed. My first reaction when reading LLM output was "Oh, if only the average archaeology student could write this well".

@kallekn @jannem I don't expect good style from Google Translate. But it can definitely spell.

@ArchaeoIain Sounds like crazy overkill to use that technology for a simple spell check. I use LibreOffice under Ubuntu Linux myself.

The Monday night Irish trad session at Wirström's pub is one of Stockholm's finest musical events, and very long-lived too. For the price of a glass of Sprite you get to hear great live music while sitting crammed in with the music in a 17th century vaulted cellar!
