bruh some people are using blue sky, and I just tried it and god it's buggy and just missing a lot, it's so bad, similar to threads, a half baked platform that makes moving from a full twitter platform hard. nothing like compared to here. why do people even try to run something worse than twitter? don't release and don't let it be hyped until it is fully done imo because you aren't running a new start up, and you don't have a runway of few years to let a start up cook, you're trying to build a full replacement for people to migrate

nsfw guidelines amendment #misskey IMPORTANT

a japanese user reached out to me to clarify some things:

​:foxjump:​ marking a file as NSFW in the drive after the fact, might only work on misskey website. so your post appears on other Fediverse instances, and may break their policies, in some cases like in Japan, sensitive media that is not filtered maybe illegal, so you are directly putting some users at risk.

​:foxjump:​ not adhering to proper filtering may get your account muted , flagged or more, or even affect the entire server getting flagged and blocked by other servers

​:foxjump:​ profile pictures and banners also count, so be sure not to upload something that may be sensitive there

​:foxjump:​ NSFW for here and fediverse overall needs to be as safe as possible just in case, and we are basically responsible for one another as a whole

​:foxjump:​ NSFW literally means not safe for work as in would you put this picture at your work desk for your co-workers and boss to see. so essentially anything risque or kind of hot or public display of affection such as making out needs to be filtered probably

​:foxjump:​ in order to set NSFW filter tap your picture when you upload it and select from the option that appears. if you made a mistake you better delete and edit the post, due to reasons mentioned above, but you can set it in the drive afterwards if you need which reflects on misskey only

curate your feed
there is no algorithm so you are in control
​:foxjump:​ find accounts you want to follow to start
​:foxjump:​ try to find the creators or artists you already follow
​:foxjump:​ look for who they are following
follow their renotes to discover new artists and creators that may be similar that they like
​:foxjump:​ tune in to your homepage feed which is only people you follow and follow through their remotes and interactions to discover more accounts that you may like.
​:foxjump:​ if you spend most of your time on your home feed you should be seeing the content that you want
​:foxjump:​ the local timeline has all the contents from this servers users, and the global timeline has contents from all servers that are associated, which means a lot of content very fast. chances are you will not be able to view all of this content, you'll notice that the feed loads continuously and you will want to catch the timeline and scroll if you see something you like
​:foxjump:​ set up antennas to create custom fees of certain keywords you want to pay attention to
​:foxjump:​ set up channels as a little community or club and share the link for people to join and post in, and you can follow this as well
​:foxjump:​ set up lists which is a private feed of certain users you pick for yourself, add them by their profile options menu or in the lists
​:foxjump:​ as I mentioned in user tips #1 you can set these into your navigation bar settings so you can easily access them
​:foxjump:​ you can also check your settings for muted or blocked users and muted words, set up a muted word filters for anything you don't want to see

interact and make friends and build your following
​:foxjump:​ first ensure that your bio is built and has accurate descriptions, ensure that you have introduction, content or portfolio that people will see immediately
​:foxjump:​ highlight the things you are interested in and show what you do so people will want to connect
​:foxjump:​ you can add emojis to your name such as my illustrator role that helps people identify me quicker when they see me on their notifications, you can find the emoji code by making a post and searching and selecting the emoji you want
​:foxjump:​ if you see a post you like check out their profile, react, renote, comment
​:foxjump:​ pro tip during this new period when a lot of Twitter users are joining misskey, looking for a new and better home, many have lower following counts than they do on their established Twitter, and this allows people to interact easily since their notifications are not too busy,
​:foxjump:​ please note that the original community is Japanese, Japanese users will have much longer history of their accounts, so English speakers learn to interact together nicely and politely, making friends with one another will be great for everyone!

💙 wet, sweaty skin or other fluids

hello twitter immigrants!

💙 misskey does not have an algorithm like twitter and is sorted by most recent first, in order to grow and help each other grow, Renotes are vital so people can see a post circulated and other interaction are good to find friends. Renote posts if you like it, your reactions won't help something be seen

💙 you may need to tap the ellipses ... options menu and select Details to pop open the main post and see its comments / Renotes etc

💙 this is the AP fediverse so you can see posts of other servers and instances such as vt social (you'll notice people with different addresses from different home servers sometimes), timeline is divided in Home (people you follow), Local (local ex. misskey megainstance), Global (federated with other associated instances, servers can be associated if someone is following someone from a diff server or by server setting etc)

💙 you can have MULTIPLE pinned posts, yes. as I mentioned before, you can format your profile bio links under Additional Information

💙 posting frequently and renoting posts often is important because this is time based feeds. so posts won't continue to be seen over time. you can renote posts without limit unlike twitter where you must undo the RT

💙 make use of antennae (keyword feeds), lists, channels (communities), and clips (like twitter moments), and place them in your navigation bar (via settings) to have easy access to important content you wish to browse

💙 you may add up to 16 images in a post? but of course certain image ratio will appear on the feed larger

new users to misskey: don't forget to check settings there are so many things you can customize! many of them are helpful and some of them are for your own preferences!

I highly recommend:
💙 Sounds- turning off all the sound because they are very annoying when the timeline is constantly loading fast
💙 General- changing notification position up to the top so it doesn't block your navigation and where your finger naturally move
💙 General- turning off the NSFW filter because the NSFW guidelines on this site is very strict so most good art ends up NSFW
💙 Navigation- changing your navigation menu do something you prefer so I have access to my lists and channels for example
💙 Profile - Edit - don't forget you can format and add links to your bio
💙 by default the machine learning setting is on so you are already opted out on all AI learning
💙 you can migrate your account from an existing instance such as Mastodon instances and bring over your followers
💙 and much more

✨ when posting type : to bring up all emotes including animated ones
✨ when posting type $ for animated and formatted text
