"As a retiree, I was able to attend each day of the Trump trial. What I saw was a master class in what a judge should be — how one can serve fairly and impartially for the prosecution and the defense, and above all remain a pillar for the rule of law in America."
Convicted felon Trump's minions are screaming to anyone who will listen that his Manhattan trial was rigged.
"Hunter Biden, and his family, will allow this to play out as the law demands. They may be disappointed by the results, but they won't blame the outcome on a corrupt system.
Because this is America, and there is still one party that respects the law."
This is how admirable adults behave; they model appropriate, respectful behavior, in stark contrast with TFG/felon and his contemptible MAGA GOP supporters.
Police could be doing more of this, things that really do improve neighborhood safety, if they were doing less things that armed officers aren't need for.
"Flying the flag, upside down, at your home is more than a hint of political impropriety — it irrefutably calls into question impartiality and bias toward the former president. It is a tangible demonstration of support for those who continue to assert that the election was stolen from him. It is the chosen insignia of those who tried to hijack the election by attacking the Capitol on Jan. 6 and gut the very constitutional democracy that established the Supreme Court."
The future of SCOTUS as a reactionary force working for the billionaires lavishing expensive travel and gifts on members of the Court that would be extended from 10-15 years to 50 years or more is absolutely on the ballot in November.
They're not "flip-flopping" or "softening" their positions, they're lying their asses off because they know that in even red states voters strongly support #TheFreedomToDecide.
Voters strongly support access to abortion, contraception, and IVF.
And voters are not going to vote for forced-birth candidates.
Every one of those Republicans are forced-birth candidates so they will lie their asses off.
“As an American, I condemn a Republican Fascist just as much as I condemn a Democrat Communist,” she said. “They are equally dangerous to you and me and to our country. As an American, I want to see our nation recapture the strength and unity it once had when we fought the enemy instead of ourselves.”
Republican Senator Margaret Chase Smith, June 1, 1950
In the wake of the conviction of the former president on 34 felony counts, the stakes in the election and the necessary choice in November could not be more clear.
It is now clear that the Republican Party, a Party where only MAGA Republicans are allowed to belong, no longer believes in the Bill of Rights, in the concept of America as a nation based upon the rule of law, not upon the rule of any one person.
This being made clear by Republican officials, elected and otherwise, each of us now must decide which side we are on.
Are we on the side of the Bill of Rights, the rule of law, or the side of the destruction of America as a functioning democracy?
It's a pretty small minority of them, but there is undoubtedly some risk tied to visible expressions of aligning with President Biden, especially in MAGA GOP dominated areas.
And yes it's very sad, in some instances quite scary.
Yep. I live in a rural MAGA area and volunteer with the county Dem party. We supply yard signs and bumper stickers to anyone who wants one, and more than once I've heard people say they're afraid to show their Dem support.
OMG that article! Those are very scary people. Especially since some of them have been US legislators and staffers!
As a side note, I've read the book he references, In the Garden of Beasts. It's very good. In fact, anything by Erik Larson is terrific.
Knowing yet another scandal would hurt his electoral prospects, Trump committed crimes to cover up his sexual encounter with an adult film star. This set the pattern of criminality that defined his presidency.
We must hold Trump and his MAGA conspirators accountable.
"No matter the outcome in any of his trials, Trump isn’t going to be stopped by a prosecutor, a judge, or a jury. Even if he were convicted of every count against him, he remains a threat to our nation and our system of government. Much as it would be nice to wake up tomorrow and find the threat of Trump lifted without any effort from the rest of us, that’s not going to happen. ...
He needs to be soundly defeated at the ballot box.
The most important vote in 2024 isn’t happening in a jury room—it’s happening wherever Americans turn out to vote. The outcome of this trial only makes it more important to vote in this election, and to do everything you can to get others to turn out and vote for President Joe Biden."
This is our task, to do everything we can to get others to turn out and vote for President Joe Biden.
