Google discovered and indexed my sticker archive. Oops. Time to Noindex that

So, I’ve been creating posts again, but, I think I’ve sussed something out. People aren’t reading anything anymore. Unless it’s 240 characters or less…

iamkale,

@jwgoerlich @krypt3ia This is a crazy drop. Is this definitely people engaging less with your content? Has your content grown shorter over the years? That's one other possibility I could read out of the chart 😅

BTW what analytics setup are you using to collect the data for this chart? I'm curious about my own blog now, but I've relied on CloudFlare's barebones analytics over Google's for many years now. I can't imagine ever being able to pull out an insight like this from the data I've ever collected through them.

I should revive satragno.com, put a blog there and post solely about touhou and smash

@matthiasott Sure, let's do it!

I blog about this and that, mostly about passkeys but I also keep track of the list of games I've played throughout a given year.

We bought Just Dance 2024 on sale on Switch yesterday and they only use a single joycon in your right hand to gauge your dancing? 🤨

Dance Central with a Kinect for full-body dance tracking were the pinnacle of dancing games and I have to spend the rest of my life knowing we'll never again be graced with such gaming perfection 😭

iamkale,

@Pibble Look, I'm with you - I'll get as many people into Beat Saber as I can too. But I'd say it's an apples-and-oranges comparison between it and Dance Central 🤔

This is the future that #passkeys stole from us 😤

@tk I'm sorry but it looks like they didn't hit a single stud when installing that swivel mount! What did they expect would happen when they extended it out so far? 😂

carrickdb, to random

Wow, there is something so refreshing about working on your own personal project and getting to push directly to main. Getting to label your commits "blah" if you want.

iamkale,

@carrickdb It's great not having to write tests for everything too if you aren't in the mood to write them just yet 😌

I made a #Linux tier list. I'm sure there will be some hot takes in here. In doing this, I realized how many distros I know nothing about at all.

iamkale,

@zak This is a good list because my favorites are at the top. Mint was the first desktop Linux OS I fell in love with, but nowadays I'd roll Pop_OS (if I wasn't so entrenched in Apple stuff.) And Debian makes for a good VPS OS ✨

So SCOTUS didn't hear the Epic v Apple case, which means Apple mostly wins except now they can't forbid app developers from mentioning making payments on their website to bypass Apple's IAP mechanisms:

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/01/supreme-court-denies-epic-v-apple-petitions-opening-up-ios-payment-options/

But what's stopping Apple from requiring developers to self-report earnings through web payments and then send Apple a cut of that? I'm getting flashbacks here to Apple's decision to require Dutch dating apps, that handle payments through their website thus bypassing Apple's IAP, to send Apple a 27% commission 🙄

#apple

iamkale,

lmao that's exactly what Apple did! Now devs can apply for a special entitlement to be able to link to their website to handle payments, and then pay 27% commission to Apple for sales they handle on their website 🫠

Apple is being such an asshole about all this; they should be competing on the UX merits of their IAP flow instead of obligating themselves to your accounting records to make sure Tim Apple gets his cut. Incredible move by Apple 😒

I have a ton of tech that I need to put online and sell and I've been putting it off for no reason. Mostly Apple products that I no longer need. I'll probably do that this weekend.

iamkale,

@zak What's your go-to site for posting stuff like that to sell? Is Facebook Marketplace still the undisputed king here?

Given how Pydantic 2 broke compatibility with Pydantic 1 in a way that's still shaking out - you can't use 2 in a project that has dependencies that use 1 without making changes to those dependencies...

... I wonder what the downsides of releasing Pydantic 2 as a new package called "pydantic2" such that it could be installed in the same namespace as the original pedantic would have been?

Presumably this is how Jinja ended up as "jinja2" forever?

iamkale,

@simon I wish I'd seen some of these conversations earlier. The complexity of maintaining a library that tries to support both v1 and v2 was too much for me and I recently announced that I'm removing Pydantic as a dependency. I wonder if things would really be better with v1 or v2 under a new package name...

rachsmith, to random

am I losing it or does command+C not copy selected text in the Chrome devtools console? why 😭

iamkale,

@rachsmith I noticed this too. Clicking on a logged message changes the background to blue, which kinda gives you the impression that the entire body of text is copy-able, but hitting Cmd+C doesn't copy. I have to then click-and-drag over the text I want to copy so it's traditionally highlighted, at which point Cmd+C copies as expected.

Not very intuitive... 😩

Security key vendor I hadn't seen before: "SLING". Appears to be repackaged TrustKey (formerly eWBM) T110 and T120. Interestingly, the hostname (www dot slingsecure dot com) does not currently resolve.

#securitykeys #fido2

Back of the T110 package. www.slingsecure.com UPC: 809636 790116 Model: eTA110 R-R-eWB-eTA110 Made in Korea
Only difference from the front bubble photo of the T110 is that 110 is 120, and the connector is USB-C.
