D-bus and BlueZ are both black magic. Together, they are a spawn from hell.

,PSA to anyone not using full dissk encryption and secure boot. Boot access equals root access. That's it.

Setting the BT Speak up with a voip provider so I can make and receive calls from it. You know. Because... why the hell not?

fireborn,

@cordova5029 It... actually works sort of not terribly. Running the sip push process in the background and generating notification events for calls and then having a brltty context called calls with bindings for answer/rejec/transfer/hold/mute.

Can I just say. I’m really enjoying my work for the Blazie Technologies team. They have made a great product and I’m so glad to be a part of it

Also, due to reasons, my BT Speak is currently my only computing device, excluding my phone, for the next few weeks. Real trial by fire here.

fireborn,

@FluidEscence It's actually pretty good. I wanted to travel light, and if I'm going to be telling people to buy these, I should find out what the usable limit is.

fireborn,

@FluidEscence Most of what I'm doing right now is coding and testing for the unit, so this way I can write, build, break and push from 1 device.

fireborn,

@drew Well, so far. You have to consider the amount of RAM and storage you are working with, and it is getting warm. That said, though, I am running about 8 chrome tabs, not including Discord, Slack, and Spotify; that's just on the desktop side. I have distrobox installed on an sd card with about 4 or 5 docker containers running concurrently.

fireborn,

@TheQuinbox @FluidEscence I am, yes. I do have auto indent, thankfully. The BT Speak editor is based off nano, and on the Desktop side, I do have VS Code installed.

fireborn,

@drew I've had a few of these. My current is the Gpd Win Max, and before that I had the win2. Both are good, the Max is the far nicer size though. The Win2 is similar to the win mini and the keyboard is awful, you will need to carry an external one.

fireborn,

@drew Not even close.

fireborn,

@drew Yeah, I'd like to see something like that.

You know you have had to perform a quick fix too many times when you can send an email to a user with exact steps to follow and don't even have the device in front of you to try it on and it work first time.

@DavidGoldfield One more BTSpeak question (last one, I promise) can I install other apps that are not included with apt-get or something similar? I assume that I can but this was not mentioned anywhere.

fireborn,

@drew @DavidGoldfield yes, you can install anything you like with apt, either from repositories or deb files.

fireborn,

@drew @DavidGoldfield You can, yes, and you will probably want to fairly frequently.

drew, to random

@DavidGoldfield Do you know if it is possible to install an LTE modem on the BTSpeak? I know it's not officially supported but I've seen people do it with the pi. It'd be a lot more useful to me if it would keep an internet connection when I am on-the-go.

fireborn,

@pvagner @drew @DavidGoldfield Can a phone not be used as a hotspot? This would increase price, complexity, weight, power draw, etc.

I have finally graduated from using notepad to Vs code. I had used it some already, but not for anything big. All I can say now is... wow. There's so much I haven't worked out yet but already my productivity has improved

Has anyone got the Clicks keyboard case for iPhone? If you have, how is it? I've got one on order and I'm excited to try it but looking for other opinions.

fireborn,

@FluidEscence the 14 already has cases available. I think they should also fit 13 and 12 series.

fireborn,

@FluidEscence no, no mini keyboards.

fireborn,

@FluidEscence Not sure if the investment is worth that yet. Not sure how well this solution works, if at all.

fireborn,

@Jonathan I'm expecting Blackberry style, which I'm not against anyway so.

fireborn,

@jscholes @simon oh this will piss me off. I've paid for expedited shipping.

fireborn,

@jscholes @simon Good to know that customer support is shit, I guess. Mine says will ship in 3-4 weeks.

fireborn,

@jscholes @simon that's true. Will just have to see what happens on that front.
