@Malleus I’m not a chick but I’m frequently conflated with one & often approach gendered interactions under the assumption that people will see me that way. Fwiw, I love muscle & would even say I have a bit of a fetish for it though not to the exclusion of other body types — with veiny arms I’d say that when they’re really popping I find it a little disconcerting, but if there’s just like one vein that visibly stands out I can appreciate it. I’m really more into the actual muscle contours though.

All that said, I’m sure many other people like me have wildly different preferences.

My son called to give me a heads up that he's going to a protest this weekend and might get arrested. I told him to be safe, that I was proud of him, and that he's upholding a family tradition, lol, he didn't know about my record.
This is like when he started kneeling for the anthem at his Track and Field events, I'm just so proud of him. And I'm proud of myself for raising such a compassionate human being, and forging a relationship where he knows that he can call and tell me anything.

Emerging fiddleheads on my weekly walk. The transitional seasons are my favorite for walking, not only because they’re most comfortable but because there are so many changes to observe each week. I guess I’ve identified finally that the ferns here come up right after the hawthorn blooms, which is also when the red maples start dropping their flowers for young leaves.

I get my eggs from a lady down the road who has chickens.
This year she got ducks too, so I decided to try some duck eggs. They are bigger than chicken eggs, I see. I don't know if I'm brave enough to actually eat one, but I do know that one is getting offered to Hekate.

@Cat_LeFey I said it depends. On the one hand, I think it's dangerous for media to still uncritically & earnestly lean in to various tropes of witchcraft, especially in the current political climate. On the other hand, if it's happening in a context that could be described as camp, that feels pretty different. Also, contexts aside, I do think that witchcraft (or magic, or whatever similar term someone wants to use) has neutral moral value in & of itself, practicing it doesn't inherently confer goodness upon a person, & very bad things can be done with it instead. Cautionary tales of harmful witchcraft are worth telling. Just... not usually through the hands of Christian hegemonic storytellers.

@Cat_LeFey yeah, featuring witches in that very lazy, default Western portrayal is extremely tiresome to me outside that possible camp context — unless it's more of a bait & switch where the witch(es) initially seem evil but by the end you're clearly being asked to wonder if that's really the case. I've only seen that approach done well a few times though.

@Cat_LeFey I've seen a couple men do it well, but I do think that even the more positive portrayals they come up with tend to be at risk of sexualizing "hot witches" instead of something nuanced. & don't get me wrong, I appreciate a hot witch as much as the next person, & like to think I am one, but still.

@Crazypedia oof, good luck! We have a couple bushes here that we allow to continue because they don't seem to be a problem. Our area's issues are rhododendrons & burning bush, so I'd love to figure out if there's a community removal effort here (& in the meantime we're slowly removing culprit plants on our plot).

I keep thinking about the crows that cawed incessantly on the edge of totality yesterday. They seemed upset & bewildered, or at least aware of something existentially overwhelming.

Corvids are so close to humans that it made me wonder whether these crows will have myths & legends of the eclipse for their future generations. Or if they already had those stories from their ancestors & understood everything as a result.

    @SpiritBearDreaming this is an interesting way of framing it by specific Saros cycle! I was just recently focused on how this year the lunar nodes are my natal ones.

    In spring 2006… wow! I was in my first year of college & possibly about to start the online roleplaying game where I would meet someone very bad for me, but where the groundwork would also be laid for me to 3 years later meet the person I’m now married to. Given the milestone he & I might be approaching soon, I like the resonance here.

    Holy shit, I think I just experienced my first earthquake that I could actually feel & that I know had to be one. Because a friend several states away just experienced an earthquake at the exact same time that my house shook real hard.

    Earthquakes actually happen here all the time, because they happen everywhere all the time, but it's very rare that you feel them in this region. Major fault lines are too far away for any seismic activity to be that significant. So growing up here, you really never think about them.

    The husband of my intentionally estranged ‘sister’ who I've not spoken to in 14 years, randomly showed up at my house tryna get us to reconcile.
    I very politely declined.

    Poor sod does not even realize how much he's being manipulated and used. Did not see how toxic it was that she sent him to talk to someone who has said they never wanted to speak to her again and blocked every form of contact. I don't even know how she got my address, like, that's not okay. That's not how decent, stable people act. Not his fault, I wish him a very happy future therapy.

    Anyway, how's your Mercury Retrograde-Eclipse Season going?
