Thoughts on seeing Wembanyama for the 1st time:

He is already a game-changing player + he's barely scratched the surface of his potential.

The game is still moving fast for him at times. He had 6 TOs tonight. But part of that has to be the minutes restriction + having a really bad team around him.

He had 6 blocks and directly altered at least 4 other shots. He is a defensive menace. But Marvin Bagley III pushed him around in the 1st quarter. He needs to add some muscle and he will. #NBA

His passing is incredible. He has great court vision and good touch.

His shooting is already good and will get a lot better.

It should be noted that he was the only player on the court from either team one hour before the tip, working with 3 coaches. He was practicing 3s, stepback 3s, side step 3s, pick and pops, passing out of double-teams, stepping through double-teams, floaters. He was putting in the work in a methodical way. #NBA

But the most impressive thing was the end of the game. He subbed back in with a little over 5:00 minutes left even though he was pretty much at his nightly minutes restriction.

And he immediately flipped the kill switch. It was 121-109 Wizards with 4:50 left and Wemby took over. He basically affected everything for those final five minutes. 7 points, 2 rebounds + a block while creating havoc in the lane. #NBA

Once Wembanyama's frame fills in and things slow down for him a bit and he gets a good team around him?

Shit is going to get really unfair. He has the chance to become one of the greatest to ever play.

Please stay healthy and never play for the Lakers!

And for the record my son was ecstatic when he figured out we were going to see the Spurs. He didn't breathe for a full minute when we got home because he had to tell his mother all about Wembanyama. Happy kid and happy dad. #NBA

Was psyched to go see the Pacers tonight. I think Halliburton, Turner and Siakam can be a legit Big 3. Was not expecting a win. Especially without Ant and Sharpe. Great game!

@mrcompletely @harveyroad I am always shocked at how low the quality is of all but the most elite college matchups. It's like watching a different sport than the NBA and not in terms of less acrobatics but in terms of the fundamentals. I swear the college game used to be better.

So many people on Facebook trying to dunk on people dealing with weather with their "Haha had to wear a sweatshirt this morning because it dipped down to the mid-50s." It takes a heroic amount of self-control to not point out to 99% of them that they live somewhere I wouldn't live without a gun pointed at my head.

@chopaganda Krause forced Phil Jackson out, openly saying that 97-98 would be his last year coaching the team (before the season even started!) and even going so far as to say that Tim Floyd of Iowa State would probably be his successor. Later that year Jordan then said he wouldn't play in a Bulls uniform for any coach other than Jackson. Fans blame the entire collapse on Krause when the championship window was still open. That's the short version.

drewphish,
@drewphish@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @chopaganda I have been a Celtics fan since diapers but the playoff game in '86 at the Garden when Jordan scored 63 and Bird famously said "That was god out there disguised as Michael Jordan" afterwards totally short-circuited my brain and made me a huge MJ fan (just not against the Celtics.) I bought his shoes every year. My room was covered in Celtics posters + Jordan posters. What they did to that team after 97/98 was criminal.

@mrcompletely @chopaganda I was so excited to be moving to Chicago in 1993 to go to Northwestern so I could watch all his games on TV. He retired 16 days after my freshman year started. I was devastated. I remember sitting in front of the TV in the dorm completely stunned. But I did get to watch probably 80 of their 100 games during the 95/96 season and saw him in person twice (once in an ECF win against Orlando) before leaving town in '97. I was so happy when he came back.

@chopaganda @mrcompletely Granted I am the exact target audience for that documentary but it blew me away. It certainly has a slant to it (because all documentaries do of course) but seeing Jordan still being that competitive was incredible. I loved it and need to watch it again.

I was supposed to ride up to Baltimore today with my friend Colleen to join Don Hart to watch the Baltimore Symphony rehearse a brand new piece of his and have dinner and my son is home sick from school for the third straight day and I had to cancel all of it and I am wallowing in self-pity right now and feel like I just can't catch a break. 😔

@chopaganda @justinbruce @LostReflector @mrcompletely @mielcarz @rowjimmy I'm only speaking about Trey and not to the fact that he seems nice but to actual conversations I've had with him. I would bet money he doesn't vote Republican based on those conversations. But I haven't stood in a voting booth with him so it's just an educated guess
