@ErikUden Vielen Dank für die gute Arbeit und klare Kommunikation!
Seit einigen Monaten funktioniert die automatische Löschung von alten Posts bei mir nicht mehr (Posts sind teilweise 2 Monate über meinem Limit). Kann das irgendwie mit der alten Version zusammenhängen, d.h. wird es gelöst, wenn ihr mit dem Update fertig seid?

We have a total of FOUR positions open in our group in ! There's so much cool stuff going on here that it will be hard to make a choice ;) (Also, our group is really cool :ablobcool: )

  1. Dropping experiments with in the 120m high evacuated drop tower in !
  2. Working with a super accurate transportable (also based on 's) for geodetic field campaigns!

My PhD thesis has been published!
If you're interested in how to manipulate atoms into their coldest possible state using lasers, and why it's interesting to drop them in a 10m vacuum tower, this is for you! Also, fun with "painting" arbitrary shapes with laser beams!

    @rooster In a round of physics PhDs we just discussed the theory that only people with low self-esteem go for a PhD (not sure how I feel about that)... So maybe he was just cool with who he was already?

    I will defend my PhD thesis in April (yay!). I thought it would be possible to make the reviewing committee less male, but it's harder than I thought.
    My (male) professor and (male) supervising PI are set. The chair needs to be from another institute at my faculty - but all 3 (!) women out of 8 (!) institutes are not available.
    Let's see if I can at least find a female external referee anywhere in the world...

    Vorher war es in Tusky komischerweise immer so, dass ich für die neuste Ankündigung ganz nach unten scrollen musste @Tusky .

    Quite a scary moment when you discover an odd factor of two in a crucial calculation two weeks before the thesis submission deadline :blobcat0_0:
    Fortunately I could follow my git commits and lab notes to figure out that I had the same issue before and the current calculation turned out to be correct...

    Wish you all a very nice set of holidays! Don't get phished and always stay vigilant. Remember: Calories can be quite the malicious payload at times.

    If you're German speaking, don't miss my science based (!) talk about the history, mechanisms and protection against social engineering at #37C3 this year on Dec 29. Will post links when the time has come.

    For now, I hope your workload is done for the year and you can chill a bit. Get drunk, do drugs, cuddle a reindeer (or a loved one, if you have to). You know, the good things.

    I might (not a promise, though) reduce my posting here for a few days.

    So I continue my tour of European capitals after having been in London earlier this month... Now, #Paris!

    Visited the museum () in today. It's tiny, but really cool to see this collection on the lives of the Curie family with their three Nobel prize winners. And you can see Marie Curie's office and lab from the time when she was head of the Curie Laboratory!
    Also: A quarter of her staff of ca. 40 people were women! In the 1930's!
