Since replacing my graphics card in March, my arch system crashes on resume 20% of the time. I don't see any obvious cause in the logs, so I finally cracked and posted a discussion thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=296050

@underlap This is with the old "radeon" driver, right? If so, this unfortunately just happens sometimes. The driver is in maintenance mode (except for the occasional compile fix) and - according to AMD - has "unfixable" design problems. :(

The amdgpu driver for my Zen2 Thinkpad is flawless and reliable.

The old fanless card in my workstation also finally died for good, so I'm in the same boat. Unfortunately there are no up-to-date lowend cards for amdgpu. :(

@underlap SInce the machine was dead without GPU (no internal graphics on the CPU from 2011) I got a cheap (45€) fanless "MSI GeForce GT710", plugged it in, tried the nouveau driver, gave up after 4h trying to make VAAPI/VDPAU work, switched to the proprietary driver ('classic' 470.x) and now it not just displays a fast, buttery-smooth desktop (thanks @xfce) but also plays HD video in 60 fps. 🎉
Not bad for a card from 2014.

A couple of days ago, I had an idea for a useful utility and so today I thought I'd have a go at starting to code it. It felt like chiselling granite. Why should that be?

@underlap In ~2005 or so I started creating "playground" projects with examples for certain libraries/frameworks (mostly Java) - both to test-drive the project, but also as quick go-to grabbag in case I need a reminder how to use something. To make this as easy as possible I also have an empty skeleton project with a pom that already has common dependencies (slf/logback, junit, mockito) wired up.
All these projects are regularly kept up-to-date and allow me to quickly get started when I need to.

In the latest Jepsen report, we discuss non-repeatable reads in MySQL Repeatable Read. Also, AWS RDS MySQL's clusters violate Serializability, thanks to an unsafe choice of replica_preserve_commit_order = off.

When I worked in CICS development and customers said the product was really boring, especially when installing new releases, we knew this was high praise.

This is why I love arch and xmonad. Rarely is there anything unusual in an upgrade. Just run one command and reboot - job done. Zzzzz.
