Thanks to @ingalls for the reminder that May 18 is the anniversary of the Mt St Helens eruption (1980), and it's worth marking that day.

We had moved from Yakima to Wenatchee a few years earlier, so got the reports of 'darkness at noon' by phone from my grandma who was still there.

This ⬇️ is a US Forest Service photo, taken at 1:30PM on Yakima Avenue, Yakima WA, on May 18 as the ash cloud passed through.

Diagnosis: partial ACL tear on the right.

Knee anatomy: still weird.

Action plan: rest, antiinflammatories, weight loss. Settle in, his knees are injury-prone.

#Niko was very scared but did much better at the vet than his last visit.

Good morning ☕ mastofriends and happy second gotcha day to little #Niko! 🎉 🎉 🎂

I had picked him up at the shelter (Pathways for Paws <-- heroes) and he had gotten carsick in his little pet carrier on the way home.

Our adoption protocol has always been "hey we have capacity to take care of another dog" and we just pick up whoever's nearest by and needs a home. We're so lucky that on this day, it was Niko.

Halp ideas?

We have a multi-image #docker container that we use as a development environment for a web app.

We have this container running on WSL and Mac, and remotely on a Vultr server running debian11. It runs fine, and uses < 9gigs of disk.

But we set up access to VMs for student developers on a remote machine. The instances run Ubuntu22.04.

And these instances RELIABLY and quickly fill up 20gigs of root disk space every time they're run, choking the machine. 1/x

Today I had to be away most of the day for a school trip to Tohono O'odham Community College.

The pluses: amazing people, beautiful day, TOCC campus is gorgeous, there was a harris' hawk family hanging out nearby, the language work they're doing there is awesome.

The minuses: I had to drive the van (😱 ) and I had to be away from Gracie and Niko all day.

On balance, it was a plus. Now we are all sleepy though so #goodNightFriends

For #WedsNeigh here is a picture of me and the dude and Azhi Baba (the grey) and Fallon (the bay) in front of the Great Pyramids in Feb., 2003.

We had an invite from a friend who was living in Cairo, and when she asked me about itineraries I said "if I could ride an Arabian horse in Egypt I will be happy". She knew some people who ran a non-terrible riding concession at the Great Pyramids, and my dream came true.
