For developers I want to make a clear statement.

There will not be an API7 when Ampache 7 releases. We will continue to build and extend API6.

This means no breaking changes or removals to the API for our next major version.

Development of 7 will need to start this year.

I think this will ready after July 2024 and will raise the minimum version to .

It usually takes me about 6 months depending on the removals and changes. I don't intend to make major structural changes to the backend so I think that's an over estimation.

6.2.1 out now!

Some hidden static typing have been found and the verify experience for catalogs is much nicer.

This isn't a big release but I like this one a lot for catching those unknown bugs.

I had been making my own "wrapped" by querying the sql, but I think this way is much nicer and not so in your face.

You should also find so many things are faster in 6 compared to 5. Still more work to go through, but I'm really happy with where it is right now

The reason why? I have a new job it will take me some time to balance work and code again this year so I don't want to waste it.

When I can dedicate my time consistently it will reopen.

6.2.0 is out now and has had so many static analysis fixes I've lost count.
(strict_types=1 is definitely a goal.)

Incoming feature to help you replace

When enabled, you can get your data for the current year from your user page. (The little "i" icon on the displayname row.)

Incidentally, we really need more icons...

Here are some interesting for 6.1.0 downloads 2 weeks after release.

  • php8.2 (60%)
  • php7.4 (20%)
  • php8.1 (10%)
  • php8.0 (5%)
  • php agnostic zips (5%)

The split between clones and zip releases is actually 50-50 which I didn't expect.

But it does for to show that putting the extra time into releases for 7.4 is worth the effort to help people who haven't/can't/don't want to upgrade yet.

6.1.0 is out now!

A lot of new testing scripts have helped us close out some long running bugs and issues in other areas

6 has had a lot of clean up work and a few new methods to make bookmarks much easier to use.
Consider it fully stable!

When upgrading Ampache you'll need to stop the mysql service manually due to the Debian stable release. Otherwise you'll get an error as the mysql service was not being shut down safely.
