I've been aware of the idea since my late teens or early twenties or so, but I've really come to appreciate in the last couple of years to what degree the information your senses tell you is subjective to the point of approaching total fiction.

@aeva I once tired to properly conceptualise that my entire sense of the world around me is actually just a play being put on inside the dark of my skull base on unreliable, slightly out of date, second hand reports. Gave a sense of being bigger on the inside. I don't recommend it.

Great thread from @rygorous wrt open source libs maintenance (in wake of current xz situation): https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@rygorous/112186275901509504 (1/N)

@aras there's also been other things were contributing got you a cookie. One example was tea.xyz which was some kind of crypto based open source software network. The problem being they rewarded the registering github projects which you did by a simple config file as they took a pull request merge as verification that you were a contributor to the project. I'll give you one guess what happened.

WhyNotZoidberg, to cyberpunk

The "Big Twist" in the #Cyberpunk2077 story at the end of act 1 aside (I loathe it) the problem with the game is that CPR has coded a basic open world RPG with a #Cyberpunk skin, meaning you can only measure player succes by how much of a pro-capitalist you are. (The more cars, clothes and houses you buy, the better you are doing).

Which is as far from Cyberpunk as a concept you should be.

@WhyNotZoidberg V sees wealth and fame as the only way they have to express any agency. But this not only keep backfiring on them, because there is no escaping the systemic problems of a hyper capatlisit society, but you are constantly presented with the human fallout of it.

Ultimately as the game goes on you should notice that nothing V buys is as important the relationships they build with people. As an early example Vik spends days patching you up simply because they care about you.

I'm a bit sad that I never got around to playing #alanwake when it came out. Younger me would have enjoyed it and it but I think it slipped past me that it was by the same devs as Max Payne, a game I adored. Younger me at least picked it all up on sale at one point though.

Older me is enjoying too, especially on the #SteamDeck and it's certainly cementing #remedy as one of my favourite devlopers.

Looking forward to finishing it, the DLC, and American Nightmares before picking up the sequal.
