As someone who moved from condo life into having a significant amount of deck plants, you just need an irrigation system and it doesn’t need to be smart.

I use the b-hyve as a water timer, it’s on my WiFi and tied into home assistant but it’s fully self sufficient on its own. It’s only job is to turn on the water. It is smart enough to not do it when it’s rained recently.

The water runs to some fat black pipe that runs around my deck, with smaller hoses plugged into it that go into the plant pots. In the pots are either drip emitters, or what’s better is an emitter hose that releases water every few inches. This is called drip irrigation and outdoor pots have holes in the bottom, so you can’t really over water. Mine runs for 20 minutes every morning at 6am and everything thrives.

Lawn care you’ll need some sprinklers or something, but before you invest make sure you look up your local regulations for water restrictions. Where I live you can’t water a lawn during peak summer, at all. Drip irrigation is always allowed because it’s very water efficient.

I think there’d have to be some manual review or something for high value posts. If everything local gets posted it’ll just start to feel like spam with no interaction.

[Help] Landlord forcing 20% rental increase

Hello, I have been living in a rental in Vancouver for about 2 years with my brother. My brother is moving out due to some personal reasons and I asked the landlord about replacing my brother with a friend of mine and she said it’s good. She said she would increase rent after it’s been 1 year since the previous increase and...

Was your brothers name on the lease before?

Boom arm is the big arm the mic goes on. Mic shock mount is what you’re talking about, this reduces noise from your desk. Hiss / pop filter is the fuzzy thing on the end

I’ve played around with willow and it works pretty well, haven’t tried the inference server yet.

It has wake word support already, that’s built into the esp32-box

Nope, that’s probably just lemmy being buggy.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page and click instances, you can search on that page for it

The problem is that it can fill up the new feed for new users, so they end up seeing a ton of posts with no interaction on them.

I personally don’t feel mass cloning of content from reddit over to lemmy, is going to help build a community. This isn’t stumbleupon.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Nope, I believe it’s confined to communities on that instance.

For All Mankind is by the same writer as ds9/bsg and is pretty entertaining. There’s some bad personal drama, but the space and alternative timeline stuff is good.

It’s like when your friends won’t stop talking about your ex.

You mean communities, not instances.

Just make one and be the change you want to see. You can always give someone else mod later.

Why? Microsoft hasnt been pushing for it like Sony has. Sony has been crazy anti competitive.

Mobile apps are coming. Personally I was a long time sync user, so I’m excited for Sync for lemmy.

You can run android apps on Windows now I think.

I tend to agree that they should not be allowed, but how would everyone feel about an exception if they’re obviously called out?

I think of communities like churningcanada on reddit for example, where affiliate links / referral codes are intentional and wanted by the community.

IE, something like:

  • Any affiliate or referral links must be obviously called out as such, with a clear description of what the poster gains and what the user would gain by using it

Tagging @mxwarp so he can share his opinions here :)

Yeah this is my thought too.

Is someone posting a YouTube video they made and are monetizing, advertising? Where do we draw the line?

Thanks! It’s not a rule yet, but that’s what we’re all here to discuss.

Which gadget makes your life better?

For me, it's a bidet toilet seat. I bought one that didn't really fit as well as I hoped, so now I am shopping for a v2 based on experience. I don't want to live without one going forward. That's for sure.

The good ones have built in heaters.
