This yr's bald eagle chick looks like it'll be fledging soon. That is the adult in the nest next to it.

I'm photographing the nest from a long distance using the equivalent of 750mm lens.

Great capture, doc! Is that the one that has the translucent beak?

Saw some lovely flowers yesterday. Ran across a large planting of hollyhocks that were covered with all sorts of bugs. I.e., paradise 😉. Here's a particularly fierce looking lady beetle. Not sure if it was hunting aphids or eating those pollen grains.

A few mos. ago a series of bad decisions/planning led to losing several mos. of my editing data from earlier this yr. It sucks to loose that work & I find trying to match earlier edits w/o the previous edit data nigh impossible, but I often revisit older photos as my editing skills improve. In this case it gave me a good excuse to take another swing at this image which is the source of my avatar.

This is a Calendula flower bud. I came across/IDed my first Calendula flower last year and was mesmerized by the brilliant orange color. Decided I needed to add it to my garden this year. Managed to start all my plants from seed and though it was slow going when I planted them outside, they seem to be thriving.

Last yr I discovered what I believe to be some fleabane, a native aster species, growing next to an outbuilding near where I've installed a bird feeder. Inspired me to try to create some shelter and forage for the visiting wildlife amidst the surrounding lawns. Trying to introduce some other natives as well as document the natives/non-native wildflowers. Watch this space.

O/T and I'm sorry to bother you but I'd appreciate your perspective because I'm wondering as to whether today's "web designer" case would imply that someone could deny similar services to religious folks (not one religion in particular but all religions) due to their moral objections to religious beliefs. Would freedom of expression, in the manner that majority couches their argument, now trump the right to services/accommodations of ALL protected classes under similar circumstances?

Some Rudbeckia in my friend's garden. This variety appears to be a self-seeding annual since its location, flower color variations, and numbers vary from year to year. I'm a huge fan. I've tried to establish it in my garden using seeds from his plants but no luck so far. Have to try again next year 🤞.

Shortly after getting my 1st macro lens (Nikkor 40mm f/2.8) in 2021, I took a trip to Chicago. Despite having other lenses I decided to take only the 40mm. It was fun/challenging being restricted to a fixed focal length. Surrounded by all that architecture & incredible views, my favorite photo was taken on a quiet street corner on the north side. I was photographing the flowers when I caught one(!) pic of the #bee.

I live in an apartment building & my landlord kindly allows me to garden. A neighbor approached me about starting some vegetables so we've added some heirloom tomatoes, sweet peppers, kale, & turnips along with some purple basil to my flower garden. We've got our 1st tomato and peppers forming👍

My clematis blooms have already come and gone. This was their 2nd year. Last year there were two bloom cycles. Maybe this year🤞. However, I think clematis have the most wonderful seed heads. They are silky and actually very soft to the touch 👍.

Unexpectedly I had a common milkweed volunteer pop up next to my houseplants. Too cool! It's already got some significant bug activity. There's a bit of an infestation in the top leaves (see curling) and here's a random ant and red fly. If I get any seed heads I'll distribute them out back 👍.

I grew a 3' high zinnia plant indoors in a 5" pot 2 yrs ago (see reply to this post), had 3 blooms, harvested seeds, gained a garden, sowed last year, harvested seeds. This👇 yrs crop. It was variety pack so random colors occur based on the seed. This year, 🟠 &🟡 .

Late entry to this thread cause this just popped yesterday. This is supposed to be plains coreopsis. I especially like the copper buds 👍. The seeds were a gift from my landlady from whom I inherited the garden so I was especially excited to let her know they bloomed.
