Kelly,

I’ve had trouble understanding the current paid DLC. Are they all cosmetics only?

Kelly, (edited )

I enjoyed this one back in the day.

I remember it “looking good” at the time with the flashlight being the standout feature.

Gameplay felt tense but I doubt what produced tension in 2002 is going to hold up in 2024.

I’m all for the remaster from a preservationist perspective but I doubt it will get me to spend much money.

How is everyone handling the 2FA requirement for GitHub? (docs.github.com)

Just wondering what people are using to meet the 2FA requirement GitHub has been rolling out. I don’t love the idea of having an authenticator app installed on my phone just to log into GitHub. And really don’t want to give them my phone number just to log in....

Kelly,

I generate a TOTP with my password manager, it stores all my other login details and keeps it simple.

Kelly,

Technically true.

You are right, having the password in the same vault does mean that if the vault itself is compromised they have both. Guess I could move the TOTP to a separate authenticator app but the only other apps I have a mobile only and there are times I need to login without having hands on my phone.

I guess the time based aspect of the TOTP makes it a little more resistant to having someone monitor my keystrokes or clipboard or whatever and capture a relatively long lived secret like my password. So I guess its a comprise I’m willing to make.

Kelly,

I love beetlejuice and have introduced it to the next generation.

Thankfully my son is usually uninterested in legacy sequels/revivals of IPs where he has seen the original so will be able watch it if it reviews well or skip it if not.

Unfortunately when he hasn’t seen the older iterations he is often quite keen. We hadn’t watched the earlier Garfield films (why would we?) so he was interested and we watched the new one today. (it was aggressively mediocre)

Dude needs to learn how to read a map.

Kelly,

No lie, its worked well for them.

Release late in a console gen allowing them to scale it down for the relatively limited target specs, then sell new versions with less limited configurations for a decade.

Kelly,

That conventional sunday strip layout must have been hell to work with.

Kelly, (edited )

They still have them

The little red dot is in the ThinkPad logo, at that point they are acknowledging its central to their brand.

Kelly,

Zelda style

Which Zelda?

Zelda has a few distinct styles!

Kelly,

No.

Commercial pirates or the people who initially leak a title might be targeted, consumers are not expected to pay significant damages.

Kelly,

For the first four years the total spend per ps4 console is given as $580, for the ps5 this figure is $731.

This is equivalent to 3.4% growth year over year but if you allow for inflation it is significantly less impressive.

Kelly, (edited )

If anything it would be abnormal if the newest generation isn’t as profitable as previous generations.

Its a little more hit and miss than that.

If we take total software sales as a proxy for profitably:

  • nes > snes > n64 > gamecube < wii > wii u < switch
  • master system < megadrive > saturn > dreamcast
  • ps1 < ps2 > ps3 < ps4
  • xbox < 360 > one

This shows 8 consoles thare were less successful than their predecessor vs 6 that were more successful.

Kelly,

Alternative take: close your damn windows.

Kelly,

Is VR2 titles for Premium new?

I thought it was only classics/streaming gated behind Premium

Kelly,

I might be missing the point but does it matter if it breaks down into micro plastics over 3 years or 13?

If single use plastics are destined to become micro plastics does the time scale matter?

Kelly, (edited )

it’s not settled that releasing as many micro plastics as possible is fine as long as it would happen eventually anyhow

Is anyone making that argument? My thoughts are that we should reduce plastics (both macro amd micro) entering the ecosystem.

As 22% ends up as litter and directly enters the ecosystem, and 49% is put in landfill (which may enter the ecosystem later) is seems using less plastic is the best solution to this problem.

Edit: I forgot the link:
