What sucks a lot about the whole #nixcon situation is that the nixcon na and nixcon eu teams are different people and the people currently planning nixcon eu were not involved with the sponsorship decisions for nixcon na but everyone (understandably) now thinks that we repeated the mistake..
The #NixCon North America conference is being sponsored by Anduril Industries, an American defense contractor founded by Palmer Luckey, who specialize in manufacturing autonomous weapons for the DoD:
I like #Nix. I like #NixOS. I've been building more and more tooling in the form of #SnowfallOrg and media like #NixPkgsNews or my YouTube channel. I do not want any of my work even remotely related to murder. Ever. I am severely disappointed in the Nix Foundation's inability to reject this sponsor. This is the second time and is not an accident.
Change and guidelines must be established to prevent this from happening again.
Here I am, resisting the urge to reply to all sorts of feedback posts about the #NixCon and telling myself I will write a proper blog post later with all my thoughts, in proper sentences, with paragraphs, etc...
...and then I realize I will just procrastinate the task until it makes no sense to do so anymore. 🥲
@tcltk@clacke@nixos@tcl interesting, how realistic Tcl can become a replacement for bash for building derivations and having phases, etc. ? (aka nixpkgs stdenv)
@raito@tcltk@clacke@nixos I’ve been planning to try this since forever and I’ve been slowly packaging stuff to that end. #Nix and #Tcl would go so well together!
The #nushell talk at #NixCon reminded me of this again, but my list of ongoing side projects is a little too big at the moment 😅. Still, if anyone is working on it please let me know!
