This is a bit scummy from #Ionos. Spun up a teeny weeny VPS to test some stuff, and because I changed the contract to monthly instead of yearly (same price) they applied a £10(+VAT) "setup fee”.
finally answered the third call I got from a london phone number that I've received in the last two weeks just to see what the fuck it was...turns out it was #IONOS whom is my current website host (recommended by a web programmer friend who ghosted me a year ago) who keep trying to sell me additional packages 😑 Luckily the agent who answered was nice enough, our conversation was brief-
them: hello, how are you today? I'm from IONOS-
me: oh, you're why I keep getting phone calls from London
them: laugh might be, might be. So how are you today?
me (used to the drill): I do not want any additional service packages, thanks
them: aaaalright, I'll get you taken off my list then 😅
me: thanks, bye.
Then I accidentally hung up on him while he said "bye" in return 😅 I don't blame the guy, a job's a job. I just wish more companies understood that if I'm ALREADY a customer, harassing me to buy more shit from them is only encouraging me to cease my business with them entirely 😒

à propos de sauvegardes, je recommande les solutions de sauvegarde automatiuqe dans le cloud, c'est une énorme tranquillité : pour ma part j'ai backblaze, pas de limite de taille mais pas d'utilisation directe du cloud (transferts, liens etc), c'est juste une sauvegarde.
Dropbox fait pareil mais avec une utilisation de ce qui est stocké, pour un peu plus cher, mais bien moins de stockage. (backblaze ~8€ par mois, illimité en taille pour UN poste, Dropbox 2to pour ~10€)
Les ami.e.s un peu techniques, je suis en train de voir pour me lancer dans le transfert des mes NDD depuis Gandi vers Infomaniak (après lecture de cet article de @sebsauvage : https://sebsauvage.net/links/?o9qvaA ).
La question que je me pose, c'est pour la migration de mon compte mail, comment faire pour que ça se fasse de la manière la plus souple possible ? L'objectif serait que je ne perde pas de mails au passage.
À ce moment, j’ai demandé un transfert entrant des NDD à mon hébergeur #ionos.
⚠️ Avant, n’oublie pas de vérifier que le mail du proprio de chaque NDD va vers un courriel indépendant du transfert, au cas où…
En gros, le nouveau fait tout le boulot. J’ai récupéré les NDD en commençant par le + cher et Ionos l’a affecté au NDD gratoche compris dans mon hébergement et jamais utilisé.
Je n’avais pas besoin de récupérer mes mails avant, puisqu’ils sont tous stockés dans Thunderbird.
Das war Inspiration genug um einen Monat später mit meinem eigenen kleinen b2 Blog an den Start zu gehen.
Mittlerweile begleitet mich das kleine stückchen PHP-Code fast mein halbes Leben und ich hätte nie daran gedacht, dass ich mit meinem Hobby-Projekt irgendwann mein Geld verdienen würde!
Während meinen 7++ Jahren bei IONOS hatte ich nebenher immer mal wieder mit WordPress zu tun. 2020 bekam ich aber die Möglichkeit, mit einem kleinen Team zusammen, das WordPress Hosting neu/mit zu gestalten. Aus diesem kleinen dreiköpfigen WordPress-Team wurde in den folgenden drei Jahren ein großartiges Haufen von 15+ Personen (inklusive Support, PO, PM, …).
Neben dem daily business haben wir IONOS in dieser Zeit ein kleines bisschen näher an die Community „geschubst“ (zumindest rede ich mir das ein 😉 ). Wir haben einen GitHub Account gestartet, den Entwicklern Zeit für die Five for the Future Initiative frei geräumt und IONOS wurde Teil der (Make) Hosting Community.
In diesem Zuge habe ich mich auch persönlich engagiert und dafür im Juni das Hosting Team Badge „verliehen“ bekommen.
2021
Mein aktivstes Jahr beim Pluginkollektiv. Ich mag die Idee und schätze die Plugins sehr! Ich hoffe ich finde in Zukunft wieder etwas mehr Zeit für das Kollektiv, immerhin arbeite ich ja jetzt hauptberuflich an ActivityPub & Co. und brauche deshalb wieder ein neues Hobbie/Freizeitprojekt 😉

Im März fand der CloudFest Hackathon im Europa-Park statt und ich hatte die Chance, ein Thema zu betreuen. Drei Tage WordPress, IndieWeb und Webmentions <3
Ich bin gespannt was dieses Jahr noch mit sich bringt und wie die Zukunft von WordPress aussieht.
Wenn es nach mir ginge, dann würde daraus ein „open, portable, interoperable, small, social, synaptic, semantic, structured, distributed, (re-)decentralized, independent, microformatted and federated social“ WordPress 😉
