This is the latest addition to my VCS collection. The nice thing of collecting these is, that most of them are pretty cheap. I was surprised that some of the games came in a box. Especially the huge Star Raiders box, which contained another surprise. No need to complain for 16€. But I will cover that in a separate post.
Weekend Atari 2600 project! I’m trying to make a colour bar test pattern in assembler.
Horizontal bars; easy. Just switch the colour each time the beam drops down a row.
Vertical bars seems to be more challenging as I’m trying to change the colour mid-way through a scanline. For some reason the colours seem to be random each time I run my code.
I suspect I’ve a fundamental misunderstanding of how this should work. Anyone out there have any tips?
Note: I do have a couple of in-depth books to read on coding for the 2600 which will no doubt give me a better foundation, but I wanted to jump in a bit cold and try something I expected to be simple.
Yes, the ATARI renaissance bug got me & now I’m seeking out the elusive ATARI VCS. The new version, released back in 2020 or 2021 I believe? Yes, this is my struggle of attempting to secure an ATARI VCS - through the proper channels. #ATARIVCS#ATARI 🕹️ #retrogaming
On September 11, 1977, 46 years ago, Atari revolutionised the gaming world by releasing the Atari 2600, originally known as the Atari VCS (Video Computer System).
What set it apart was its use of ROM cartridges for storing game code. Instead of having games built into the gaming system, players could now switch cartridges to access different games
Release day has come and gone. This week was a wide range of emotions, but I hope everyone is enjoying End's Reach. I will continue to support the game for quite a while and welcome feedback.
3 Years of development now condenses into the next 48 hours. What an intense feeling it is to see a project like this go out the door!
Anyone who's ever been through the release of any sort of software knows the last few days can be a bit stressful, even if everything is going well. Lots of emotion.
I'm really excited for everyone to get their hands on End's Reach this Friday.
