#AQI in #NYC was 30, so I opened the window a few hours ago. Now the AQI is technically 54 (according to iqair.com), but the pm2.5 meter that I have right next to the open window reads 92..
What if we didn't burn the fucking planet down with cars and private jets and leaking methane ("natural" gas) wells and coal-fired electricity?
I'm sure lots of revenue will be missed now that NYC congestion tolling has been killed, but was it earmarked for specific mass transit projects or was it just going to be used to hire more cops and whatnot?
BREAKING: #NYC was about to lead the US out of the urban dark ages by forcing drivers to pay a fair price for the pollution + congestion they inflict on the city.
But NY's governor just pulled this:
Hochul Halts Congestion Pricing in Stunning 11th-Hour Shift
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul delays traffic congestion pricing plan for New York City.
The Hill quotes the governor: “Let’s be real: a $15 charge may not mean a lot to someone who has the means, but it can break the budget of a working- or middle-class household. It puts the squeeze on the very people who make this City go: the teachers, first responders, small business workers, bodega owners."
An older lady power-shuffling down the sidewalk outside the Gristedes waving an envelope around, such that her path intercepts with a mail carrier coming the other way with reaching arm and open hand. The hand-off is made without words and everyone keeps goin. See, I like living here. #NYC
Speaking of 🏙️, if you like inline skating around #NYC, or maybe zipping on any geometry of tiny wheels through any urban landscape, consider giving Masto.NYC's own @skatenyc a follow!
"Founded in 1997, the Empire Skate Club of New York is a non-profit organization of inline skaters dedicated to having fun and bringing the New York City inline skating community closer together.”
