I run across a great BE thesis published less than four months ago, "Designing domain-specific languages with Common Lisp macros".
After an overview of metaprogramming and an introduction to Common Lisp macros and DSLs, the thesis presents a DSL for text adventure games and the interactive fiction engine it runs on.
@animemer@thecatcollective also the Backends of all big enterprises, espechally #GAFAMs run basically exlcusovely on #FLOSS and maybe some inhoise tools they didn't publish at all.

Now that I got home after 2 years I was using my old computer witht he old OS on it, ArchLinux. I updated it, it was working fine and Arch is a fine platform... But I missed the NixOS setup I had moved to (and still had on my laptop)... Lastnight i moved back over to NixOS and I really couldnt be happier... this is the best linux distro I ever used! I love how every time you upgrade it produces a "clean" system of dependencies like a new install!
Another cool feature is stylix. Its something that is only really easy to do on NixOS. Its a module you load as part of the package configuration and it styles your whole system for you. Sets the same background in all your windows managers, and sets the same color scheme across all your apps, and even the boot loader and console... its pretty sweet!
@freemo Yeah I started with Corellinux years back, went to #knoppix, then #dsl and then to #puppy, as a desktop builder the hdd partitioners that was on those distros was invaluable to me. I have a basic grasp of how everything works, and have for years, but I am only slightly more skilled than a newbie.
In #Berlin und #Brandenburg fährt der Prignitz-Express jetzt mit Biokraftstoff statt mit Diesel. Eine tolle Sache! Unser Landesvorsitzender war in Neuruppin mit dabei, als das Konzept vorgestellt wurde.
@acousticmirror@daviwil#faust is so mind blowing tbh. its just so good, you can pick up any paper and implement it in minutes just from the diagrams, without even actually reading the paper. and the workflow of the diagrams hot reload is super satisfying. its honestly the best example of a the power #DSL(s) can offer. if you're already familiar with zero-delay #DSP you can pick it up in 5 minutes, and port things that require a small mountain of #csound code to like, 10 lines of faust in 15 minutes. its bafflingly good, and extremely declarative. if you understand a design — or hell, better yet, even if you don't understand it but have it ready at hand — you can implement it at the speed of reading.
last I was using it about 2 years ago it suffered from not having a proper fft story, which is certainly a significant area to not cover, but spectral processing is kinda nerdy anyway lol. what Faust offers is the best possible set of tools for getting deep and dirty with the most fundamental object of interest to the real dub heads — infinite impulse response filters, and the precise control over non-linearities they offer as elaborated in the filter theory of Vadim Zavalishin.
#DSL kaputt, Fernlösung wohl nicht möglich, am Montag kommt ein Techniker. Ich verdächtige ja weiterhin stark die Infrastruktur auf der Straße, also nicht die im Haus oder in der Wohnung (hier hat sich einfach nix geändert und die Fritzbox hat sich und das anliegende Kabel als topfit diagnostiziert).

Wundervoll. Ich muss ja hier von Kabel-Internet zu DSL wechseln, weil die Deutsche Wohnen den Vertrag mit Vodafone gekillt hat und die mir somit ab dem 01.05. keinen mehr anbieten können.
Statt 1 GBit/s für 40€ soll ich also künftig mit 250 MBit/s für 55€ glücklich sein.
Vodafone kann nichts am Preis drehen und die nette Person am Telefon kann mir nur empfehlen den Vertrag zu kündigen, da die Kundenrückgewinnung hier vielleicht was an den Preisen drehen kann.
Dieser unfassbar unnötige Schritt. Jetzt darf ich extra eine Kündigung aufsetzen, damit irgendwo ein Schalter umgelegt wird, der mir spezielle Angebote ermöglicht. Klappt das nicht: Anbieterwechsel.
Da komme ich wenigstens ein bisschen günstiger weg und sowohl 1&1 als auch Vodafone nutzen nur die Leitungen der Telekom. Also ist es egal bei wem von beiden ich bin…
BAHAHAHA! Der neue Anbieter für #KabelInternet hat sich gemeldet.
Der neue Anbieter heißt #Synvia. Eine wundervolle Google-Bewertung von sage und schreibe 2,0. Bei Trustpilot knapp über 3. Interessanterweise taucht der Name ausschließlich in Verbindung mit der #DeutschenWohnen auf und scheint denen auch einfach zu gehören.
Ich habe mich ja über die Kosten aufgeregt, die DSL dann hat. Aber Kabel bei Synvia ist tatsächlich einfach mal ziemlich exakt doppelt so teuer.
Mal zum Vergleich. Derzeit zahle ich für einen 24 Monatszeitraum bei #Vodafone für 1 GBit/s 839,52€. Mit eingerechnet sind 10€ weniger, die ich durch einen Mobilfunkvertrag habe, der eine Gigakombi ermöglicht.
Würde ich zu #1und1 mit DSL wechseln wäre ich bei 839,64€ (dieser eben erwähnte Vorteil fällt dann weg). Vodafone #DSL wäre ich bei 953,64€ also im Schnitt ~5€ mehr als jetzt. Beides bei einem Viertel der Download-Leistung. Soweit so ätzend.
Synvia erlaubt mir meine Leistung zu behalten, möchte dafür aber 1.692€ auf 24 Monate gerechnet. Bitte was? Würde ich so viel zahlen wollen wie bisher, hätte ich dann nur noch etwas ein Siebtel der aktuellen Leistung.
Ich bin gespannt, ob Vodafone mir noch ein Kundenrückgewinnungsangebot macht oder ob ich dann zu 1&1 wechsle. Ein riesiger Haufen Mist bleibt es auf jeden Fall.
