Best way really to experience Fela Kuti's afrobeats is as a whole album. Some tracks are 15mins long, but you won't mind. Some songs he lets the band build for longer than regular tracks before he comes in with the vocals. It's not about radio friendly or fitting between commercials. His albums build a hypnotic rhythm through each song to song. Here's a taster, a slimmed down 6minute edit of Lady.
This is one of those tracks that got lost. Not metaphorically, but literally lost, & rediscovered masters, remastered and re-released. What a track, also from '69.
I love how each time you feel you have this track locked it shifts it up and morphs. Try and headphone this one or get in between your speakers to really appreciate the stereo mix.
James may have been a hard taskmaster but he was such a great performer and huge presence on stage. Still true the last time I saw him, not that long before he died. What a career & catalogue of tracks.
I'm always slightly mad at the song "I Just Called to Say I Love You" because it's the song a lot of people pegged Stevie Wonder on, which has prevented them from discovering all his other stuff.
2 of the greatest whole albums ever made (in my view) are Innervisions & Talking Book. Here's 1 track from Talking Book.
The Talking Book album and the Innervisions album, they're very solid recommends for carving out some whole album time to task focus or just for recharge selfcare. Cut the notifications & updates & task switches & varied input and do 1 thing while an album evolves.
Because I was delivering some advice... of course there was only 1 track I could choose from Innervisions. 😉
It's more of an underground hardrock cathedral, than a rabbit hole tbh. Full of smashing drums, the intricate pulsing guitar, deep bass, and those massive vocals.
This one is particularly good for 1978 video, retouched, reframed & remastered with enhanced audio.
Eddie Van Halen, just a hurricane on that guitar. This is a 1978 Van Halen promo piece for their debut album, with some Eruption and then the track. Cleaned up & remastered visuals & sound. Very cool for such an old piece of footage.
Totally opposite vibe after a few hours back to normal having #Mastodon open at sides 1 of my screens. I still see major events, but without same high profile Twttr accounts performing latest outrage reaction to every event.
Love my timeline here in comparison. People are basically decent. We can fix a lot of stuff. 1 start, be friendly!
War - Why Can't We Be Friends (remastered too, in to 4k from the original 16mm reels!)
