Looks like nobody is interested in $3500 headset… https://www.macrumors.com/2024/04/23/apple-cuts-vision-pro-shipments/

@darth I'm actually a huge VR enthusiast, like, I'm above a majority of people when it comes to VR interest, in fact it's the one reason I even still dual boot windows instead of just going full linux.

Even I wouldn't pay $3500 for a headset. It could literally perform fellatio on me and I'd still think it wasn't worth $3500. When I think $3500, I think "oh cool, New bed/I can buy a used Buick Century for myself".

@WMan22 I understand 🤓

@darth What I find interesting is that (iirc ofc), Apple expected to sell ~200k units. Demand was higher than expected, so that number got revised up to ~800k. Actual demand was ~400k.

So even though it's expected to sell twice as much as initial estimates, it still counts as "demand falls sharply beyond expectations". Wild. If you set search to only articles from last year, you can see estimates from anywhere from 150k to 400k.

I need to sit down, I feel weird defending apple. Yuck

@timchi Meh, defending / not defending. All good. I am a fan of VR stuff as a form of entertainment, but at the same time, I am against a future where corporations plug us into those helmets for 18 hours per day and use us as voluntary slaves. My words might sound like an overreaction, but give it some thought and tell me I'm wrong.
