#TIL The first 48 bits of UUIDv7 is a timestamp (millisecond precision). This means that:

  • Sorting UUIDs also sorts them by creation order
  • You can easily extract creation time from UUID
  • v7 solves the poor index locality of fully random UUIDs when used as primary/foreign keys
