Since I use instead of Spotify, I have to make do with this. My albums of the year.

NOTxNSANE,

saw Leprous live for the first time, it was way more than I expected. Huge Queen vibes with the back vocals... Saw Tesseract tooo (insane) but missed Haken. Way too much $ for a single year down here.

@Gargron Not familiar with , so I looked them up and quickly learned that:

Tidal is majority-owned by Block (formerly Square), which is owned by Jack Dorsey (formerly Twitter) and Jim McKelvey.

A couple of billionaires that just cut more than 10% of their staff too.

@Gargron yeah Tidal need to set up their game.

@Gargron Personally I am disappointed with Leprous's Aphelion this time. As much as I like them, their vocal gone too far IMO. He always sounds cathartic and too dramatic. Since he never reduces the tension it doesn't evoke any feelings for me.

@Gargron I don't use Spotify or any streaming music services, I just have a ton of audio files... Last year I just tried to remember the artists that stood out, that I listened to the most, and made my list based on that. 😉

Gargron,
@Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

@rasterweb You can use last.fm to keep track of what you listen to. I've been doing that since 2008!

joe,

@Gargron @rasterweb I was scrobbling back when I was using winamp. It looks like it should work with all the things.

rasterweb,
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

@joe @Gargron Scrobbling you say?

Yes, I am familiar with that term. 😉

Back in 2010 I wrote a thing to pull all my scrobble data to my own web site and it's got 76,703 scrobbles.

@Gargron I just quit Tidal today. Way too much music missing on Tidal. My most listened was massively different.

    @Gargron @duviobaz
    genuinely all ?

    Gargron,
    @Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

    @TheExecEditor @duviobaz I haven't encountered any music I couldn't find on Tidal. I can't guarantee you that their libraries are identical as I am not affiliated with either of them.

    @Gargron there's no last.fm scrobbler for tidal ?

    Gargron,
    @Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

    @emilweth Oh, there is. That's how I can make this.

    phaedral,
    @phaedral@mastodon.social avatar

    @Gargron I went to tidal for Court and Spark. Totally worth it.

    Willhierweg,

    @Gargron Off topic, but I'm very happy with Qobuz...

    nullthegrey,

    @Gargron Why #tidal instead of #spotify, genuinely curious.

    Gargron,
    @Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

    @nullthegrey Higher audio quality, better royalties to artists

    elvector,

    @Gargron @nullthegrey The only problem is its high price. Do you have a family account you share with somebody?

    Gargron,
    @Gargron@mastodon.social avatar

    @elvector @nullthegrey Yes, I pay for a family account and share it with my wife and parents.

    As somebody with music on both services, I can safely state that Tidal's royalties per Stream are at least 3-4 times higher than the ones from Spotify, when comparing streams from the same countrys.

    Nobody questioned that. You'll need about 1000 streams of a 6 Track Album on Spotify to give the same Money to the artist as when you buy it from BC digitally. On Tidal, it's about 300. So there is a difference.

    I just corrected your false statement that "unfortunately, they're about the same now".
