We'd like to start posting regular updates about new apps and updates in our repository. What frequency would you prefer?

#AndroidAppRain #FDroidUserSurvey #FDroid

Parnikkapore,

@fdroidorg In my case, the app rains were introduced in a context where the build farms seem to only be able to push out updates in roughly weekly batches. In that case, the rain messages are a helpful indicator for "lookie, there'll actually be new stuff when you refresh this time!".

If this has been fixed since, I'm not sure if the app rain posts would be too noisy tbh. Some might wish for there to be an account that only posts for significant news or when special action is required.

@fdroidorg
I don't mind anything once a day and less often

more often and it becomes anoying

I'd prefer some quality filter - but that's obviously not an option

dperson,

@fdroidorg daily

johns,

@fdroidorg I think multiple times a week would be great if there are updates that you think are interesting / noteworthy.

immychan,

@fdroidorg once a month sounds like a good time frame for a "community update". I used to help out with @PINE64 's community updates so send me a message if you need a hand.

Winterstar,

@fdroidorg
What about writing about new apps only or if major features were added to an existing one?

@fdroidorg asap

Rastal,

@fdroidorg Isn't that what you see already on the "latest" tab of the F-droid app?

Tbh, one of the best things about F-droid is it's a level playing field for all developers on the platform, there isn't a curated list of apps or "editor's choice" or other type of promotion spam, which would result in a handful of apps getting pushed over all other apps which end up getting buried.

platymew,

@fdroidorg "updates", like version updates? Asap, please.

If you're talking about news, than make sure I DON'T get notifications.

h2o,

Once a day, filtered by a human being to make it more pleasant.
And maybe postpone to next day when too much for a single toot. Smooth the rate of news on a week basis
@fdroidorg

wauz,

@fdroidorg
I'd say, regarding my update habits, once a fortnight is nice.

@fdroidorg As a note: we'll re-evaluate once toots have been "sounded" for a while (say, a few months) – so those not following my account or the mentioned AndroidAppRain tag (and thus already know what this is about) can get a feeling for it and, if needed, voice their need for adaption with the next corresponding poll 😉

Or take a look at the tag and filter down to those for fdroidorg to see how "ASAP" would look like 😜

dboehmer,

@fdroidorg Significant news curated by a human would be fine even daily. For a bot posting New package versions Plesse open another account that can be subscribed independently. The main account can also boost significant version updates.

ErictheCerise,

@fdroidorg

I follow @IzzyOnDroid; they seem to post almost daily, and I like that.

I think the best answer is, "when you've got interesting new stuff".

Nuuskis,

@fdroidorg I answered once a week, but maybe 2 week cycle would be better. It'd also serve as a recommendations for new apps to try.

Yoss1960,

@fdroidorg Daily, for me.

uniqx,

@fdroidorg Once a week still sounds too often IMHO.
