This new iPad Pro is fantastic. Very happy with it. Except it’s also not a MacBook Air. All this power and this 3 legged OS. Stage Manager is a weak simulacrum of a window manager. Please unify these operating systems.
@shanselman I've been waiting for this ever since they switched to Apple Silicon everywhere for their professors. Same architecture, why no same OS?
As much as people bemoan losing desktop functionality on a laptop... I absolutely want to be able to turn a laptop into iOS and vice versa. So many people still need laptops for one thing or another but realistically find the OS too complex to use for much and so they end up using an iPad for daily computing
@hazelweakly@shanselman absolutely agree. Have a bunch of caveats, that’s fine (like, reboot into macOS has no onscreen keyboard, maybe even no screen touch? At least for mvp). The statement ‘everyone with an iPad also has a MacBook’ is silly wrong way thinking :(
@shanselman I see your point. However, I never ever want macOS looking like iOS/iPadOS! Never. There is enough stuff "ported" to macOS from that world which, imho, doesn't really match the macOS metaphor.
@phranck@shanselman Sadly, every year the “iOS-ification” of macOS continues. I expect we’ll see something else major ported over this summer and lose something else that made macOS unique and fun.
