Immich looks like a great self-hosted alternative to Google photos, and similar look, which I like since GPhotos one is actually nice. https://immich.app/

@djlink The one thing keeping me in google photos is the great face/object recognition model that they use. It's super useful for finding the photo I want among all the disorganised crap I have. I haven't found anything that worked as well.

@eliocamp from what I've searched there is no better alternative at the moment, google just has way too much data at this point for anything else to pick up fast. but there are things improving, like Synology Photos etc

@djlink Very interesting. I'm reading in its comments 'Only thing missing to me is a photo editor that lets me crop, rotate, and adjust saturation, brightness, highlights, etc', and it's something I couldn't find also on my actual alternative (Nextcloud+Gallery F-Droid on mobile). I hope these apps will get a basic editor soon. For members of my home, it was hard to convince at the time to get out the Google Photo system because of this feature missing. Years later, it is still absent...

@davidrevoy yeah most are lacking, I usually do that on the phone itself (before upload)

@davidrevoy @djlink On Nextcloud you can install the "Memories" app which is an alternative to the default photo gallery and much much better. It's way faster when you have a ton of pictures, has a much nicer interface, and has indeed a small editor :)

@Olomorn @djlink Hey, yes. That's what I use. It's also the only sane option that triage photo via exif date (and I have hundreds of Giga of family photos going to 1900). Yes, the small editor is on the Nextcloud app.
Unfortunately, on the mobile side, the Memories client use the Nextcloud sync app. It's not a 2 way sync (if my wife edit one of our photos, it's not sync back on my phone).
But good point for the Memories Nextcloud app: it retains the exif after edition, and date editor is good.
