@jacqui76 @harriettmb

Is Michelle O'Neill being very clever in attending the Coronation? Will this marginalise Jeff more?

Thoughts, ladies x

harriettmb,

@Geri @jacqui76 Here’s two pix, from the meeting in Hillsborough Castle before the funeral. I could not find the video. But the body language in these is very telling I think.

Mary-Lou McDonald, President of Sinn Fein Ireland, King Charles and Michelle O’Neill, Leader of Sinn Fein Northern Ireland standing together and smiling. 2023

jacqui76,

@harriettmb @Geri

Jeff always looks like a Sixith Former waiting to grovel to the headmaster in photos. He doesn't take a natural photo at all!

harriettmb,

@Geri @jacqui76 Charlie, Mary-Lou and Michelle are very comfortable in each others company. Jeff was sweaty and awkward. I was on the bird site at the time, and the video clip is glorious, if you can find it. He was here before his mothers funeral. A reciprocal visit to RoI is on the cards fairly soon. SF are playing this one very well. IIRC they attended the funeral also. I suspect it’s all stage managed and part of the divorce of the six from Britain [don’t tell the DUP!]

jacqui76,

@harriettmb @Geri

The clip of Charles with Michelle, Alex and Jeff has been replayed many times. It was such a stark example of what Charles thinks of Jeff. It must have been tough watch back for Jeff. The King he is loyal too, doesn't know who he is and doesn't like him.

The King's visit to Ireland after the Cornation must be a right kick in the ba**s for DUP.

They have to know their time is running out!

jacqui76,

@harriettmb @Geri

He is member of the Privy Council, which sees him being invited to the Cornation. He sent out a very quick and shirty denial about that article. Which makes me think it was true.

Now where does Michelle sit and where does Jeff sit?

Not interested at all Harriett. But I may sneak a peek to see where they put Jeff. Hopefully behind a pillar!

@harriettmb @jacqui76

Jeff will ONLY be in attendance as part of privy council to the king but he hasn't been invited as part of the political parties of NI which includes an invite for Sinn Fein, UUP and other leaders.

#ouch

Sunday World article

harriettmb,

@jacqui76 @Geri I remember this. Have retooted because it’s glorious and Jeff won’t be one bit happy. #karma #dup

jacqui76,

@harriettmb @Geri

That's the article, that Jeff had a complete 💩 fit over. Called it #fakenews

He is thin-skinned when it comes to his #ego being dented.

    jacqui76,

    @JohnLoader6 @Geri @harriettmb

    I understand that many held the Queen in high regard and don't see Charles in the same light.

    However, whether it is Queen or King, I don't see the point of a Monarchy.

    Plus I don't see why anyone should be considered better than anyone else. They are an outdated relic of a bygone era. Plus they certainly shouldn't held up as role models for anyone. They are no better than you or me!

    What did the Queen do about Gay Issues throughout her Commonwealth?

    Nothing, nothing at all.

    Tony Benn for example.

    @JohnLoader6 @harriettmb @Geri

    I wouldn't say I trust Harry - I don't know him. None of us do! Have the papers done a number of him & his wife. While ignoring his brother...most definitely.

    I am minded to lean towards him just because the press hate him so much, not because I am on his side.

    Is there always 3 sides to any story - there is mine, yours and the truth!

    He comes across more approachable than his brother. I would go for a pint with him quicker than William.

    jacqui76, (edited )

    @JohnLoader6 @harriettmb @Geri

    That said he is still a rich man, who has and continues to live a life of luxury. He will not have to struggle with the bills or the mortgage.

    They deserved some support when press turned on them. The Queen could have spoken out but she remained silent. How could you do that on a family member?

    Yes but, 11 Nov 2015 — Jeremy Corbyn did not kneel before the Queen as he was sworn in as a member of the privy council

    jacqui76,

    @Geri @JohnLoader6 @harriettmb

    I checked there is currently 719 members of the Privy Council. It is hardly an exclusive club!

    So I will delete my earlier one, which is wrong.

    jacqui76,

    @Geri @JohnLoader6 @harriettmb

    All this nonsense - 'Privy Council' dating back to 13th century.

    Advisors to the Monarch, as the Monarch is now nothing more than a symbol now, maybe it's time to do away arcane traditions🤷‍♀️

    'Right Honourable' (when there ins nothing Honourable about them)

    Swearing an oath to be loyal to a Monarch.

    That really doesn't sit well in 21st century.

    JohnLoader6,
    @JohnLoader6@masto.ai avatar

    @jacqui76 @Geri @harriettmb as for right honourable not only aren’t they the latter they never seem to be right either

    I think Corbyn was very honest about why he didn't kneel. To be honest, on this one, I agree with him.

    You should not have to bow or kneel to another human being in 21st century. It is all nonsense!

    JohnLoader6,
    @JohnLoader6@masto.ai avatar

    @jacqui76 @Geri @harriettmb I would have had respect for her as a person and bow. She was special. Charles? Not in the same league. Now Anne is a different sort, more like her mother

    jacqui76,

    @JohnLoader6 @Geri @harriettmb

    If I ever met a member of the Royal Family - (it will never happen) I would be polite but there would never be a bow or a curtsey. I am not made like that!

    harriettmb,

    @FloydyStu @jacqui76 @JohnLoader6 @harriettmb I am reminded this morning of Liz Truss's snivelling obsequiousness as she shamed herself before Elizabeth Windsor.

    And I am laughing about it too.

    jacqui76,

    @Geri @FloydyStu @JohnLoader6 @harriettmb

    That was absolutely humiliating outing for #Truss, needless to say, we didn't know that would be her highlight in office.

    jacqui76,

    @Geri @harriettmb

    I honestly think this goes back to the mistake that #Sinnfein made over not taking part in the late Queen's visit to Ireland in 2011. Which is widely accepted as a re-set in Anglo-Irish relations. They don't want to make that mistake again.

    I think this is MON doing exactly what she said would when became #FirstMinister in waiting - a First Minister for all. She is extending the hand of friendship once again.

    This will make #Jeff look rather petty once again. He

    jacqui76, (edited )

    @Geri @harriettmb

    is incapable of pushing himself out of his comfort zone. He won't even accept the outcome of an election, he won't let a government be formed because he can't share power when an Irish Republican is #FirstMinister.

    It will confirm the belief that everyone has to move to suit Jeff but he isn't prepared to move even an inch to help #NI move forward.

    Fair play to Michelle and President Higgins, they are both attending the Kings Cornation.

    The Unionists can't complain now.

    harriettmb,

    deleted_by_author

    jacqui76,

    @harriettmb @Geri

    Exactly, the Unionists especially the #DUP probably wanted her to decline the invitation, so they could attack Sinn Féin. Plus accuse MON of not representing the Unionists in #ni

    This has the same ring as Marty meeting the Queen & shaking her hand. This is another step in the journey of this place.

    jacqui76,

    @Geri @Loukas @harriettmb

    For the #DUP - women should stay in the kitchen, make tea and serve the tray bakes. Poots told Foster when she became leader & First Minister that he main role was as a wife & mother.

    They all are - DUP, TUV, Aontu have forced-birth as party policy; UUP & SDLP allow members freedom of choice but the majority are forced-birth; Greens, PBP, APNI are parties with choice. Though there is/was one person [man] in APNI who is a forced-birther. It was Claire Bailey as head of Greens that brought in the safe distance legislation for people attending clinics. It’s passed and all, but no Stormont means it’s not active yet.
