strypey,

"What matters is... immersion in comprehensive treatment of a topic, as opposed to a blog-style linear sequence of short, frequent postings commenting on the hot topic of the day. It doesn't matter what software is used to host the content, the distinctions are:

  • in-depth vs. superficial
  • original/primary vs. derivative/secondary
  • driven by the author's expertise vs. being reflectively driven by other sites or outside events"

Despite being written in 2007, this article has some useful insights for dealing with the consequences of content-bots, powered by auto-generation algorithms. Like marketing grunts writing by-the-numbers copy, creators can't compete with these bots on quantity. So it's worth creating fewer, more ambitious works, and putting more effect into each one. To increase both the quality, and the uniqueness of your authorial voice.
