@whitequark Entitlement explains many common behaviors of people. On the roads, in stores, online... I've come to believe it is the key to understanding others, and sometimes, sadly, myself as well (though I'm working on that part).
@whitequark while i try and make my stuff easy to install (granted i don't provide direct binaries usually, i just provide packages to the extent reasonably possible) that is part of why i don't usually care about developing for windows/macos
@amyipdev ironically, the project i have in mind has always provided binaries for windows and macos
it's linux which was a pain. appimages have bad user experience if you use custom themes so i didn't want them (also the build process is a PITA), eventually a third party added snaps
@whitequark fair enough. i personally haven't had an issue with binary packaging but then again i typically am building in rust with no non-standard (libc) system dependencies
@amyipdev it is a gui app (solvespace) so you run into weird questions like "is gtk a system library? what if you build it in and it tries to load .so from the system dirs? what if it doesn't and that's even worse?"
@amyipdev i wanted to have system menus and be a good citizen and integrate with whatever weird ux decisions ubuntu did, so kinda no other choice than gtk
if i wanted you to easily download the binaries i would have made the binaries easy to download
if you're creating issues where you are upset about not being able to download the binaries i might decide to put in more effort and make it easier, or i could decide to commit to not providing binaries because i don't want people like you benefiting from things i build

(would have been an S tier decision if i just banned the guy with extreme prejudice, but i tried too hard to make everyone happy at the time. since then i have embraced violence)
@whitequark You can't make everyone happy, and also "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" is a handy phrase to have in your pocket when deciding whether to kick assholes out of your space (the answer is almost always "yes").
