I watch all kinds of international stuff including European detective shows, , and , but I have never gotten into Chinese dramas. Every time I start one, I quit after an episode or two. Is there something really good out there I am missing?

@cs If you like costume dramas with a supernatural element (xianxia genre), perhaps with Dylan Wang and Esther Yu might interest you?

@Sollenbum thanks. Of course I will have to find source with subtitles

@cs I watch with English subtitles on iQiyi. The dramas may also be on YouTube. There are other places to watch, too...

@Sollenbum oh, I couldn’t figure out how to turn on subtitles on iQiyi

Sollenbum,
@Sollenbum@mastodon.online avatar

@cs Did you figure it out? On the app, I think you turn on subtitles when you first download it. On the computer, I think you can change subtitles for each drama. But they are definitely there. My app automatically shows me English subtitles.

@Sollenbum I was using the mobile website. I will dig into it more later now that you have confirmed subtitles are available. Thanks

@cs No problem! Now that you know that iQiyi has subtitles in English, it is just a matter of finding them. Once you do, they automatically turn on. At least mine do. I never think about it ...

@cs If you are interested in a sweet, modern love story you might try with Yang Yang and Dilraba

@cs what kind of genres do you like?

If you are interested in magic battles and historic costumes, and are willing to stick out 7 episodes to get full context, I'd recommend .

If you like complicated love stories, I recommend .

If you enjoy team competitions with romance, I recommend .

If you like strong adult women and their relationships to work and family, I'd recommend .

jillithd,

@cs you're welcome! I also enjoyed the which is a period costume drama and discusses military battle strategies and complications as different factions try to take over each other's regions.

JupitersGhost,

@cs @jillithd Hi if you like costume dramas and mysteries might be worth trying A League of Nobleman which has a young student and a noble official join up to solve mysterious killings. Some superb spooky visuals, court politics and opposites becoming reluctant allies

MewMew,

@cs

Period drama: nirvana in fire, joy of life
Modern: go ahead, reset, the day of becoming you
