Well I've found my first annoying things about having moved! Trying to find the toddler a damn nursery space!! Holy moly shame I didn't know I'd be living here a year ago to get on the waiting lists 🙈 Feeling like a massive moron sending requests to places that are basically like 'er ... no, did you not apply sooner' no because I didn't live here 😭😭😭
Okay, so we've found some options, one being a childminder, who I'm trying to arrange a visit with but she's so damn chatty 😅 I find out more about people here in the first ten minutes of meeting then than I did about people back home in years of knowing them! I'm wondering if most of the UK is like this & Bournemouth is just miserable, or are Newbury folk just eager to share & find stuff out. Both myself & Mr F are baffled each day by the thing we get told or the questions were asked.
@ht_honey He's 2.5 almost & in reality we don't need childcare, which makes me lucky because no spaces isn't the end of the world, I can do it, but he would benefit so much from the social aspect & learning from someone who isn't mum!! We've found a couple of potentials through the power of Facebook & local recommendations, so fingers crossed I can get more info from them and see where we go from there.
@ht_honey this is very true, and I'm ashamed to say I'm dreading that becoming my last option. I've never felt welcomed at a single baby or toddler group but I'll know I'll have to suck it up if it's the only way to get him some tiny friends! 😬
@followingfloss I hear you. I went to them while on maternity leave with my third so that my middle one could play with others. I found it hard but never as hard as the school gate. I realised at the toddler groups that there were others at the edges too.
@ht_honey oh yes, also not had any success at the school gate. Well that's a lie, I made one mum friend in the whole of primary school but that's because our kids basically set us up 😅 it's weird because I am friendly & quite open to chatting but I don't think I give off that vibe 😬 so then I just assume I don't look the part for a mum friend, but that might be an unfair judgement on other folks 🤷♀️
@ht_honey@followingfloss I went to a local toddler group when I moved and was 8 months pregnant with my second. It took three weeks before anyone else talked to me. Which was awful. I ended up running the group and never let anyone come in without getting their name and introducing them to others. It was a life saver for me really.
@Focusedandfilthy@ht_honey oh that's amazing that you gave people a better experience, not related to toddler groups, but I am going to see if there's a crochet group around here, maybe some of them will have kiddos & I can make us friends that way. Or at the library, we're going to join up there soon.
