sproing,

" Stills said in an interview that the name of the song came about when he presented it to the record company executive Ahmet Ertegun... Stills said "I have this song here, for what it's worth, if you want it."

@sproing Pierre Boulez was preparing for the premiere of a new choral piece, and the orchestra called to ask what the title was. Boulez replied that he hadn't yet decided, but that the piece was based on the poetry of e.e. cummings. The caller took him literally, and the piece is now known as "cummings ist der Dichter" ("cummings is the poet").

sproing,

@cenbe Love this. I wonder if there's a list somewhere of this sort of accidental meta-naming.

@sproing There's also the story about Miles Davis: just before a big performance, the announcer asked Davis what he was going to play, and he replied "call it anything"... the piece is now known, of course, as "Call It Anything".
