Linux_Is_Best,

This is going to be a hard truth, and it is not going to be popular either.

I just finished building my own copy of Mozilla Firefox. I disabled, everything, and I do mean, everything. When done, there were no user settings, not even the simple back, forward, and home button. I stripped Gecko down to its core components, so the only function was to render websites.

You cannot optimize Firefox further (I don't think). I gutted it like a fish, and I think pushing it further would have broken it

Linux_Is_Best,

But the hard truth of the matter. The thing I am not pleased about, and I doubt anyone else here will be.

Only after gutting Firefox down to the most basic function, render web pages, did it finally outpace Chromium.

Firefox has too much fat on its bones to compete. Most, if not all, would not settle for a web browser stripped to its core with no extensions, no options, and no settings.

Mozilla Firefox needs an overhaul.

Linux_Is_Best,

I have been comparing Firefox against a Chromium browser (Vivaldi)

  • Firefox
  • Beta
  • Developer
  • Nightly

I tried many different forks of Mozilla Firefox, just to further compare.

  • LibreWolf
  • WaterFox
  • Mullvad
  • Pale Moon
  • Mercury
  • Basilisk
  • IceCat

Both Mercury and Basilisk were improvements.

Mercury based off of the current Firefox with code from both LbreWorlf, WaterFox and IceCat. While Basilisk, a fork of classic Firefox (before Quantum) which has continued the development.

Linux_Is_Best,

But improvements didn't mean a win.

I wanted there to be different results. I wanted Firefox to win the day, but I don't know how that is possible in its current form.

Linux_Is_Best, (edited )

It comes down to this...

If you want ad blocking and better privacy, Mozilla Firefox is the current undisputed champion. -- I'd recommend either Firefox Nightly or the fork of Firefox, Mercury. They're both going to load better.

If you want speed and performance with the latest features, it's Chromium. -- I recommend, Vivaldi Browser. You're going to have more features, but with fewer Google nonsense embedded into the mix

The reality at the moment is you cannot have both in a single browser

@Linux_Is_Best @mullvadnet ha…sorry, just saw the first one at a glance and felt compelled. I use Mullvad browser daily. LOVE IT!

expert,

@Linux_Is_Best I don't recommend #Firefox but #Waterfox instead :-)
