Conservative judges revive case on FDA’s “you are not a horse” ivermectin posts

You are still not a horse, but FDA will go to court over its authority to advise you.

toxtethogrady,

@arstechnica Those judges will have no science on their side...

@arstechnica I would also like to point out that my dog takes Ivermectin for heartworms

@arstechnica That is a dip-ass way to phrase that, given that the FDA is itself the entity being sued.

jd3d,

@arstechnica I don't understand this whole controversy. I don't think Ivermectin works against Covid, but I also know that Ivermectin is very often used on humans for other reasons.

So why do people keep calling it a horse drug when it clearly isn't?

@jd3d @arstechnica because nutjobs were specifically obtaining the horse/large animal dosing of ivermectin at the height of the craze (and some nutjob doctors were endorsing this behavior).

jd3d,

@kkeller @arstechnica Hmm I'm not sure that's true. From what I can people have attempted to stigmatise them by claiming it's a horse drug. I've never seen dosage levels mentioned as the reason.

I've seen people say "it's a horse drug" - but never "it's also human drug taken at horse doses"

In fact I would wager that most people don't know it is used on humans at all.

@jd3d @arstechnica I don't know what "most people" know, but I'm sure that articles I read at the time mentioned that there are legitimate use cases for ivermectin in humans, and that COVID-19 was definitely not one of them. (I don't recall reading whether doctors told patients to get livestock ivermectin, or implied that they should.)

And as Ulrike mentioned, farm supply stores most definitely ran out of ivermectin because wingnuts bought livestock doses.

But..." #ivermectin #standing
