jacqui76,

It is about time that someone did something about the stalemate at #Stormont. There is no better #woman than Naomi Long for the job!

I have heard it said that Sinn Fein aren't that keen on changing the rules either! Whether that is true or not, I am not sure. I wonder why they might not want things changed either! #NIpolitics

@jacqui76 @harriettmb The current situation benefits them as the largest opponent of the DUP and a relatively progressive party on social justice issues. Change the designation rules, and Alliance become more of a threat to their vote share because of areas of policy overlap.

That could be true - Alliance have the opportunity to take votes of both of them. Which neither of them want!

@jacqui76 @harriettmb And there is an interesting shift happening with more and more people showing indications of not wanting to be defined primarily (or sometimes at all) by community background or Britishness vs. Irishness.

So much of voting here so far has happened on the basis of "I have to pick the party that will oppose the constitutional outcome I most fear." It'd be interesting to see if more people would vote otherwise if designation changed.

I think this is something that the people of NI, is further on in understanding than the politicians.

Not all of us have been in voting in the tribes they think we belong to because of our birth & parents. Personally, I have been voting for different parties at different elections for quite sometime now.

I will continue to vote tactically until the #DUP are no longer near the levers of power. Then I may vote for the party that I agree with.

@jacqui76 @harriettmb This about sums me up as well. They've invested so deeply in a politics of division, and in stoking the fear that it requires, that I think it came as a great shock to them not to be entitled to the First Minister post as if by divine right.

Fear and the flag is all the #DUP have left at this stage. They have no positive message about the future. It is always 'no' with these tw*ts, which is so depressing. They want to take us back to pre 1969 #NI when everything was done for their benefit.

The loss of the #FirstMinister position was another blow to them. They lost the majority at Stormont, then Westminster and then they lost Dodds as an MP. They never recovered.

They really don't know what to do!
