fraydabson,

Any other #programmers that can help me find motivation? At work it’s easier to set and achieve goals in a siloed environment. At home there’s too many options and idk what to do. Game design really intrigues me but I lack artistic creativity #coding #python

Do you have an #itch to #scratch? Most of my personal #projects (some publicly released, some not) come from wanting to solve my problems, my way. As you go about your usual life, take note of things that make you think "that's something a computer could do for me" or "it would be easier if...". I know this is kind of trite advice.

I've found it's difficult to make progress on #problems that I think I should want to work on, rather than things I actually want to work on.

It's a subtle difference. But things that will really make for a good personal project are things you shouldn't have to work up enthusiasm for -- a real passion project will be one that jumps in your lap without asking.

If you want to write games, you can! Maybe ones with high-quality art are not something you want to tackle on your own, but there's lots of other kinds of games out there. You can find a niche that you're a good fit for.

Board games, text games, ...

When it stops calling to you and becomes a chore - I've also been there - it's time for that project to go "stable", or EOL, or transfer to another maintainer, or gracefully fade away.

Anyways, TL;DR : absolutely find a project to be passionate about, and then do it :)
